Chapter 95 

By the time they arrived at the hospital, Angela was trembling all over, unable to speak due to the pain. 

“Acute appendicitis. It needs to be removed,” the doctor said bluntly. 

Angela flinched, instinctively grabbing Dexter’s large hand, her eyes filled with fear. 

Surgery? She was terrified of the pain. 

“There’s no other way. Leaving it untreated will hurt even more.” Dexter sighed. 

It wasn’t a major surgery, but Angela’s fear was palpable. She was taken into the operating room and came out about three hours later. The night passed in a haze of antiseptic smells as she dozed on and off in the ward. 

Dexter stayed by her side the entire time, refusing to rest. 

“What’s going on with you and Angela? Are you two sleeping in separate rooms?” Fiona asked as she entered the room, scrutinizing Dexter. 

He froze for a moment. 

“We’ve been arguing lately,” he admitted. “She doesn’t want to share a room with me.” 

Fiona scoffed. “You’re constantly seen with other women. No wonder she’s fed up with 

you.” 

Dexter was speechless. 

For a moment, he wondered if he was adopted. Surely, even an adopted son wouldn’t be hit with such sharp jabs. 

“I didn’t do anything,” he mumbled defensively. 

His relationship with Elena was purely platonic. At most, he found her to be somewhat interesting–a bit different, perhaps. 

“What’s going on with Elena?” Fiona pressed, pulling up a chair and sitting down. “You’d better get your act together. In the Bamford family, there’s no such thing as a divorce–you can only be a widower.” 

Dexter felt suffocated by her words and didn’t respond. 

By morning, he had two large dark circles under his eyes. 

When Angela woke up, her gaze met his, and she couldn’t help but chuckle. 

The movement pulled at her surgical wound, and she winced in pain.

Dexter shot her a glare. “If you want to eat something, order it yourself.” 

He handed her his phone, his tone as frosty as ever. 

Before Angela could respond, a soft, melodious voice came from the doorway. 

“Dexter, I heard Angela was unwell, so I made some food for her.” 

Angela instinctively looked over and saw Elena standing there in a flowing white dress, her long hair cascading over her shoulders. She radiated an elegant and gentle beauty. 

For a fleeting moment, Angela understood why Dexter might be drawn to her. Even as a woman, Angela found herself captivated by Elena’s charm. 

Without waiting for a response, Elena stepped into the room. “Angela, are you feeling better? I heard it was acute appendicitis. It’s not too serious, but you’ll need to take good care of yourself during recovery.” 

As she spoke, she began unpacking the food she had brought. 

Angela remained silent, observing Elena’s actions and trying to guess her intentions. But no matter how much she speculated, she couldn’t figure it out. 

“You don’t need to.” Dexter’s voice cut through the room. “Take it back. She doesn’t need 

it.” 

Elena’s face froze, her expression shifting to one of disbelief. “Dexter, I brought this out of 

kindness. I…” 

“The doctor said she shouldn’t eat random food,” Dexter replied, avoiding her gaze. His tone was as cold as ever. 

Tears welled up in Elena’s eyes, and she visibly struggled to hold them back. She had been rejected twice now. 

“Dexter, what do you mean by this? Last time, when I brought food for you, you humiliated me in front of everyone. Now you’re doing it again. All I’ve done is try to help. Lworked so hard all this time, all for your sake. What did I do wrong for you to treat me like this?” 

Her voice cracked as she clutched the cutlery in her hand, her eyes red with tears streaming down her cheeks. 

Angela still didn’t say a word. She wasn’t interested in intervening and chose to silently watch the drama unfold. 

“Come with me,” Dexter said, standing up and motioning for Elena to follow him outside. 

But Elena yanked her hand away. “Say what you need to right here. Are you afraid Angela will misunderstand our relationship? How many times did she argue with me over this in the past? Did I ever hold it against her?”
