Sandy’s heart skipped a beat. There was no way she’d ever let a woman like Sienna become her kid’s stepmother.

But now, going to meet Mrs. Nelson… Sandy was pretty sure her own background wouldn’t exactly win her any points.

Still, she figured Mrs. Nelson wouldn’t seriously consider Sienna either, not after that whole awkward mess.

Thinking it through, Sandy finally agreed. She squeezed her hands together and nodded. “Shane, so… when are we going?”

She needed at least a little time to prepare herself.

“Right now,” Shane said, sounding impatient. He turned around and started dialing his phone.

Within a few minutes, his driver pulled up outside.

Shane led Sandy into the bathroom, wet a washcloth himself, and handed it to her, his dark eyes intense. “No need for makeup. You’ve got that natural, classic beauty. Just cover up the marks on your neck.”

Sandy was still floating a little from his earlier sweet words—until that last comment hit her, and she blushed hard.

She snatched her collar away from his fingers, pulling it up to hide herself.

When she turned, flustered, Shane leaned in closer.

His presence was overwhelming—she’d never really dated before, and the way he looked at her made her whole body shiver. She pushed him away, her lips trembling. “Shane—”

“I told you, you can just call me Shane,” he murmured.

He slid an arm around her waist, his big hand gentle but possessive, eyes narrowing. “You’ll have to get used to this. We used to be a lot closer than this, you know. Back then, you were much more obedient.”

Sandy was blunt as ever. “That’s because I saw you as my sugar daddy.”

The words hit their mark, but Shane didn’t get angry. Instead, he stared at her lips, a slow grin spreading. “I like you this way. Bold, a little defiant… you’ve got some real spark.”
