The butler replied, “Ma’am, I just checked outside and—well, you won’t believe it—it’s Miss Sienna from the Sheldon family!”

“She looked like she’d been through something awful. Completely unconscious. And the weirdest part? Someone just dumped her right at our front door. What’s going on?”

“Sienna?! Is she… is she still alive?” Mrs. Nelson sucked in a sharp breath, her face tense. “Oh my God, don’t just stand there! Bring her inside, quick! There are too many people milling around the manor gates.”

“And listen, go call Emma straight away. Sienna is her precious girl, and I don’t want her getting the wrong idea that we— the Nelsons—had anything to do with this…”

The butler nodded briskly and hurried off, rallying a couple of house staff to help.

Mrs. Nelson anxiously dialed up the family doctor from the living room, her brow furrowed.

Upstairs, Shane’s father, Gary, just stepped out of his study. Hearing the commotion, he frowned and called down to his wife. “What’s all the racket about? Honey, don’t tell me Shane’s finally come crawling home. After all that tabloid mess this morning, I swear, I’m going to wring his neck—”

“It’s not Shane. Something’s happened.”

Mrs. Nelson’s nerves were frayed. “That scandal this morning was bad enough, and now Sienna—out of nowhere—ends up at our doorstep, barely conscious. This can’t be a good sign.”

“Butler! Did you get her inside yet?!”

“She’s in, ma’am. We’ve settled her in the guest room,” the butler called back.

Mrs. Nelson hung up the phone and made a beeline for the guest room.

Gary, puzzled, strode downstairs. “Sienna? Wait, isn’t she the one you’ve been considering for Shane? What happened to her?”

“I don’t know!” Mrs. Nelson pressed her fingers to her temple, visibly stressed. “Her clothes were all torn—God, I’m afraid to even think—”

Before she could finish, a loud commotion erupted from the hallway.

“Where’s Sienna? Mrs. Nelson, what happened to my Sienna? Oh my God—my poor baby! What happened to her? This is going to be the death of me!”
