When I reached the ballroom, the once lively and elegant room was a complete disaster.

Grandma was being yanked around by Amara, forcing Grandma to watch a video on her phone. Cordelia was shoved to her knees off to the side, her mouth covered by two men in black suits.

Mom, Henry, Jeremy, and the rest of the guests were huddled on the floor, squeezed against the walls under the pressure of two rows of bodyguards, too scared to move.

“You old hag, open your eyes! Look at what your precious granddaughter’s done–seducing a married man, pushing his pregnant wife down, and causing a miscarriage! She was five months pregnant, and Emilia still shoved her! How vicious! How evil! She deserves to die!”

Amara yanked at Grandma so hard she could barely stay on her feet

She fought to break free, but Amara only tightened her grip.

Seeing Grandma stumble like she was about to fall, I completely lost it. I rushed forward, caught Grandma in my arms, then spun around and kicked Amara hard.

Caught completely off guard, Amara hit the ground with a heavy thud. Her eyes widened in shock, filled with disbelief.

She couldn’t believe I’d actually kicked her.

But I didn’t even spare her a glance. I steadied Grandma, panic rushing through me. “Grandma, are you okay?”

Grandma tried to say she was fine. But before the words could leave her mouth, Amara–snapping out of her daze–shouted, ” Old hag, look at the monster you raised! Someone like her is a disgrace to your whole family!”

Grandma’s body shook with rage. She opened her mouth to defend me, but before she could get a word out, she clutched her chest, her face draining of color. Then, she slumped forward in my arms, unconscious.

“Grandma! Grandma-” My whole body trembled uncontrollably in terror.

Henry, seeing Grandma collapse, shoved past the bodyguards restraining him and sprinted over. “Mom-”

Seeing Grandma pass out like that, pale and motionless, even Amara’s face went pale.

“I didn’t touch her! I didn’t do anything to her! Whatever happens, it’s not my fault!” she stammered.

Then she turned and bolted. The bodyguards she’d brought took one look at her fleeing and quickly ran after her.

Watching Grandma being rushed into the emergency room, I couldn’t hold back anymore.

I slapped myself hard repeatedly across the face.

If something happened to Grandma, even stabbing myself to death wouldn’t be enough to make up for it. It was all my fault. None of this would have happened to her if it weren’t for me.

It was all because I was useless-
