I was pretty much estranged from my family.

So, even though the engagement party was held in Claudeville, I had only invited Grandma and Jeremy. I hadn’t even extended an invitation to Mom, let alone my other relatives.

And because this was just an engagement party, I didn’t invite any of my research teammates. I only invited Mr. Holland.

Hence, most of the guests at the party were here because of William.

After accompanying William for a round of greetings, he went off to discuss business with someone. So, I went looking for Grandma and Cordelia.

Grandma had never met William before. Today, at the engagement party, was her first time meeting him. But that didn’t stop her from taking an instant liking to him.

She held my hand as she looked at William, who was discussing business not far away.

In a gratified tone, she said, “After you and Irvin divorced, I was always afraid you would never move on from it and would stay single for the rest of your life.

“I never imagined that not only are you about to remarry, but you’ve also found such a good husband! Honestly, if my life were to end right now, I would die happy!”

The older generation could never help worrying about and doting on their future generations. Similarly, Grandma was so worried about me every day that she couldn’t sleep well at night. However, she had never told me this because she was concerned it would only weigh heavily on my heart.

Grandma knew how deeply I had loved Irvin. As such, she feared I would never recover from the heartbreak and that I would spend the rest of my life alone.

Dedicating myself to scientific research was wonderful and benefited both my country and people.

That being said, Grandma was just a simple–minded and selfish old lady. All she wanted was for me, her precious granddaughter, to live a joyful and wonderful life. She wanted me to have a husband who truly cherished me and lovely children to adore.

I knew everyone’s life would eventually come to an end, but I still couldn’t stand hearing her talk about dying.

Pretending to be upset, I said, “Don’t say things like that, Grandma! You’re going to live to be 100 and watch my kids grow up. So don’t you dare think about slacking off and not helping me babysit them!”

Grandma laughed and squeezed my hand. “Okay, okay! I’m going to live until I’m over a century old and help you take care of your children!”

Just as she was laughing at her happiest, Irvin walked toward us.

Right now, he was living as Timothy, and I had never told Grandma he was actually Irvin. Even so, he had been her grandson–in–law for four years. Thus, there was no way Grandma wouldn’t recognise Irvin.

When she noticed him approaching us, her mood surprisingly didn’t sour like it used to. Instead, she seemed even happier.
