Chapter 84 

“It won’t budge!” 

“It’s been rusted for years.” 

“The ground’s been hardened and raised, so the valve’s buried deep.” 

The onlookers commented, but my eyes were fixed on Brandon. 

I didn’t expect him to lie down on the ground. As he exerted force, the veins on his temples and arms bulged with effort, exuding sheer strength.

“Give it up, young man. Don’t waste your energy. Several strong men have, already tried.” A kind elderly lady advised, seeing Brandon’s struggle. 

I also felt sorry for him. “Brandon, maybe we should leave it. I’ll get someone to fix it.” 

As soon as I said this, I saw the tense Brandon suddenly relax. He said, “It’s done.” 

He got up from the ground, nimbly brushing the dirt off. “Let’s go upstairs and take a look.” 

Water was still streaming down the stairs. Our shoes would get wet if we went up now. “Let’s wait a bit until the water subsides a little.” 

Brandon glanced at my shoes. “I’ll carry you on my back.” 

I widened my eyes instantly. “No, no need.” 

My face turned red as I said it, aware that the onlookers were watching closely. 

Brandon’s eyes met mine, seeming to understand. He said, “I’ll go up and handle it. Give me the keys.” 

As he spoke, he reached out and took the keys from my hand. 

When his fingers brushed mine, I felt a jolt, like an electric shock. 

It was something I’d never had with Chris. 

Chris and I were probably too familiar with each other. We’d been together. since we were kids, so holding hands or hugging was common. There was never that electric feeling of romance. 

At this moment, I seemed to understand what Chris had said to Derick. 

Brandon strode up the stairs, water splashing under his feet, making it look like he was walking on water. 

I stared at Brandon until a neighbor lady asked, “Miss, is that your boyfriend? He looks like a capable young man, very strong.” 

“And he’s not afraid of getting dirty, lying on the ground like that,” another lady chimed in. 

“You don’t see many young men like this nowadays. You’re really lucky, miss.” 

My face grew hot, and something stirred in my heart. 

The water soon subsided, and I went upstairs. The door was open, and water was all over the floor. 

I lifted my pant legs and waded if, and found Brandon in the bathroom. He was working on the water valve. Seeing me, he explained, “This part broke. It’s probably due to corrosion from not being used for so long.” 

He was right. It hadn’t been used in over ten years. How could it not corrode? 

I stayed silent. Brandon continued, “The pipes in this house are all old and corroded. To avoid this happening again, it’s best to replace them all.” 

“That sounds complicated,” I said, surprised and a bit worried. 

“It’s not too bad,” Brandon said, already removing the broken pipe end. He looked at me. 

Seeing my wet shoes, he frowned and handed me the pipe fitting. “Go buy six of these, a pipe wrench, 22 meters of PVC pipe, and four faucets–one for the sink, one for the kitchen sink, and two regular ones.” 

I hesitated, and Brandon assumed I hadn’t remembered. “I’ll text you the list. Just buy what I send you.” 

“Brandon, maybe we should hire someone to do it.” I felt the project was too complicated.
