The next morning, Ellie noticed the house was unusually quiet. She didn’t even see the housekeeper. 

“Amelia, where is everyone?” Ellie asked, coming out to the living room, noticing Carlos was still asleep.

“Ms. Thompson, Mr. Alex Warren fell from the second floor last night. Mr. and Mrs. Warren, along with Evan, rushed him to the hospital and they haven’t returned yet,” replied Amelia. 

Ellie glanced LIT at the second floor. She took out her phone to call and was about to ask about the situation, but the thought of the doll in Alex’s room made her think Alex should be fine. 

After breakfast. Ellie wheeled Carlos out to the garden to tend to his orchids. Feeling her phone vibrate in her pocket, she stepped aside to answer it. 

“I almost died. Nobody told you?” Alex’s voice came through the phone, laced with annoyance. 

“Alex, are you alright?” Ellie asked softly. 

“I won’t die. Alex said. 

“That’s good.” Ellie sighed in relief. 

Alex was silent for a moment and then he spoke again, clearly without the same momentum as before. “My leg is injured. Do you want to come to the hospital to take care of me?” 

Ellie glanced at Carlos not far away and softly refused. “No, I have to take care of Grandpa. If there are not enough people, I can ask Amelia to come over.” 

Before Ellie could finish speaking, the call was hung up. 

At noon, Ellie was gnawing on a peach and was about to go upstairs when Alex entered the living room, flanked by Evan on the left and Barry on the right. 

Alex pushed Evan and Barry away. He hopped on one leg to Elli He glared at the half–eaten peach in Ellie’s hand, his temples throbbing with anger. “I almost fell to my death and youre still in the mood to eat?” 

Ellie nodded and hid the peach behind her back, not daring to ew on the piece that was still in her mouth. She just held it there. 

Alex, who was originally furious, unconsciously calmed down when he met Ellie’s innocent eyes. When he spoke again, his voice was incredibly gentle. “Come upstairs with me.” 

After saying that, Alex was helped up by Evan and Barry and hopped towards the stairs. Halfway up, he looked back and saw that Ellie hadn’t followed him at all. He was so angry that his sides ached. 

In the afternoon, Ellie was organizing Carlos‘ study when Amelia knocked on the door. “Ms. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Warren love gone out. Please go upstairs and check on Mr. Alex Warren.“‘ 

Ellir was dragged by Amelia into Alex’s bedroom. 

Inside the bedrooin, Evan, Barry, and the family doctor were present. Alex was lying in his large bed, his face dark as he stared at Ellie. The white bandage on his leg was stained crimson with blood, likely because the wound had been bumped, 

Ellie stood at the foot of the bed, meeting Alex’s cold gaze. With a word, she looked away.

Evan said, “Doctor, please take a look. We don’t want his leg getting infected.” 

The doctor awkwardly bent over. As soon as his fingers touched the bandage on Alex’s calf, Alex kicked him away. 

The doctor looked at Evan and Evan remained silent. 

Evan looked at Ellie. 

Ellie shook her head and waved her hands. “Don’t look at me. My brain is injured and doesn’t work well. I can’t treat people.” 

Alex lay motionless on the bed, staring at Ellie for a long time, then pointed at her and said, “Come here.” 

Ellie shook her head. 

Gritting his teeth and enduring the pain in his body, Alex sat up and pointed at Ellie. “Get over here now.” 

Ellie shook her head again. 

“I don’t believe I can’t handle you. With a determined look, Alex crawled over to Ellie using his knees. He reached out to grab her, but she swiftly dodged him. 

Just as Alex was about to be mad, he met Ellie’s innocent yet guarded eyes and sheepishly withdrew his hand. Clearing his throat, he turned to Evan. “Everyone out.” 

Before Alex could finish his sentence, Ellie was already making a run for it. 

“Get back here! Enraged, Alex jumped off the bed and grabbed lie as she tried to scurry away like a rabbit. 

Seeing this, everyone quickly left the room. 

With everyone gone, only Alex and Ellie remained. 

Alex sat on the edge of the bed, one leg still injured. He held Ellie’s wrist with one hand and subtly wrapped the other around her waist. Looking at her expression, he carefully asked. Doesn’t it hurt you to see me like this?” 

Their eyes met and the air crackled with unspoken tension. 

Ellie wondered where the doll on Alex’s bed had gone. As she realized the meaning behind Alex’s gaze, she jumped up.

Ellie shook her head. She had heard something but she thought lex was trying to trick her into opening the door, so she didn’t go out. Later, she fell asleep. 

Alex took a deep breath and asked again, “Why did you refuse to take care of me at the hospital?” 

Ellie instinctively lowered her eyes. Alex, frustrated, lifted her coin with his fingers. “Look at me when I’m talking to you,” he

Ellie’s heart was pounding. She felt like she couldn’t breathe. She shoved Alex hard. “I don’t remember what you’re talking about. Let me go.” 

Alex had been thinking about this for so long. How could he let Ellie go easily? Even with his injured leg, it didn’t stop him from holding Ellie tightly in his arms. 

He whispered in Ellie’s ear with emotion. “Stay in my room tonight and take care of me, okay?” 

“Aaron said that everything should stay the same until I get my memory back. I can’t promise you anything.” Ellie blurted out in a hurry, ignoring the injury on Alex’s leg and struggling to break free. 

Ellie kicked Alex’s injured calf, causing Alex to cry out in pain. Alex clutched his injured leg and rolled around on the bed. 

Ellie’s face turned pale with fright. “Stop shouting. Come here and let me see.” 

A few minutes later, Alex was lying straight on the big bed and Ellie was carefully cleaning his wound. 

Alex’s face was sullen, his whole body lay motionless in a large font, and only his eyeballs were rolling. 

“What else did Aaron tell you?” asked Alex. 

Ellie pursed her lips, not daring to make a sound. She slipped up in a moment of panic. How could she possibly tell Alex what Aaron had said to her? 

At that moment, Evan knocked on the door. “Ms. Thompson, Mr Thompson is here.” 

“Aaron!” Hearing that Aaron was here, Ellie excitedly put down what she was holding and rushed out of Alex’s room. 

Alex looked at his half–bandaged calf and was rendered speechless.
