"Emily, wake up please," I cried out as I rocked her back and forth. Coming to a few moments later, she sat up groggily.
"Where am I?" she asked, her voice coming out shakily.
"You're in my home in my bed, I found you passed out on the street with a gash on your forehead." Putting her hand on her forehead, she winced and withdrew her hand and stared at it. She was still bleeding and I had asked Sophia to call the doctor and to also bring the first aid kit so I could dress her wound.
"What happened? Did you fall?"
"No, I was walking down the street, when I turned to reach in my bag, I realized I didn't have it on my shoulders and the minute I turned around back I was hit over the head with something.
"This is all my fault, if I didn't upset you, you wouldn't have been placed in danger." Holding her close to me, I told her to not fall asleep as she may have a concussion. Five minutes later, our family doctor, Doctor Richards came in along with Sophie who didn't have the first aid kit in hand. Realizing that I was staring at her empty hands she explained that she spoke to Doctor Richards and he had told her that we should not dress the wound he wanted to have a look at it first. Coming over to where we were, he examined the wound before he took something out of his bag that he was carrying on his shoulders. Using his own stuff, he cleaned and dressed the wound before he put gauze on it.
"Good news she doesn't have a concussion but the bad news is she has a bad gash on her forehead. If she was hit with more force, her skull would have been cracked. I felt her shudder beneath me and I know she must have been feeling scared. Putting her to lay, I told her to get some rest before we exited the room. Walking Doctor Richards to the front door, I thanked him before he left. Walking into the kitchen, I called out to James who appeared a couple of seconds later.
Going into my office, we sat down before I began to speak. "I don't think this was a random act of violence James, I think this was deliberate and I think whoever was stalking her did this. From what I gathered from her, this person is a maniac and very jealous. He doesn't want her around anyone. He probably had seen her tonight with that man and had gotten back at her by attacking her." I could feel my anger rising and I had to pour myself a glass of scotch to drown it to calm down.
"I do agree with you Adam, I am still looking into who might want to stalk her but all I am getting is dead ends. Is there any possible way that you could ask your dad to use his private investigator to look into it? With the both of us working together, we might actually get some leads." Thinking about what he said, I think it was the best way to go.
"I will talk to my dad in the morning." Nodding his head, we changed the topic and began talking about golf while we drank scotch. We both got tired around the same thing and had decided we were going to call it a night. Going back into the room, I saw that Emily was still fast asleep. Climbing into bed with her, I drew her close to me and drape my hand on her back. I could hear her snoring lightly, and that was the last sound I heard before I fell asleep.
Waking up, I saw that Emily wasn't in bed. Getting up immediately, I quickly made my way downstairs while shouting her name. "She's in here," Sophie called out. Following the voice into the kitchen, I saw that she was seated at the table eating. She looked awful––so out of it and I desperately wanted to comfort her but seeing as where we were I couldn't.
