Logan raised an eyebrow. "Cheating?"

Someone in the crowd shouted, "Yeah, Selina cheated with Mr. Butler. The evidence is clear—we all saw it!"

The loudest voice came from White, the same woman who tried to humiliate Selina the day before.

"Mr. Reid, we know you care about Miss Angelica, but you can’t let Selina off the hook because of that! Sisterhood? Selina clearly doesn’t see Angelica as her sister!"

"Exactly! Miss Angelica, why are you being so kind? Selina won’t even appreciate it. She’s the one who slept around, yet you’re the one taking the fall!"

Angelica’s eyes welled with tears. "Please... everyone, stop saying that..."

"Cheating with Mr. Butler, and those hickeys as proof—"

Logan let out a quiet laugh, his fingertips brushing the mark on Selina’s neck, sending a shiver through her. She shot him a glare as he said slowly, meaningfully:

"I left that mark myself. When did it become Mr. Butler’s? Or are you all trying to say..."

His voice was calm—too calm. So calm it chilled the air.

"...are you trying to say my actions need your approval? A kiss between husband and wife is hardly scandalous, but to you, it’s apparently an unforgivable offense. What is it—do I offend you?"

Silence fell. A wave of panic swept through the crowd.

Offend Logan Reid? Question his personal life? Were they insane?

Selina glanced around, locking eyes with Angelica’s stunned expression. Then she slipped her arm through Logan’s and said in a pitiful voice:

"Logan, that’s exactly what I said earlier. What’s wrong with a married couple being affectionate at night? But Angelica insisted—insisted—that she knows you best. That you’re too cold and restrained to ever leave a mark like this, so the only explanation must be that Mr. Butler did it."

"She said that. Everyone believed her, not me, Mrs. Reid. Then they all called me a cheater..."

She wiped a nonexistent tear. "I told them I was with you the whole night. Angelica said she didn’t believe me—and just like that, they didn’t either. I’m really confused. Who is Angelica, exactly? What gives her the right to speak for you?"

Gasps rippled through the room. Angelica’s face went pale, then flushed red. "Logan, that’s not what I meant. I only thought Selina—"

"Oh? Are you trying to say Logan lied about the hickeys to protect my reputation? So in your eyes, he’s that easy to manipulate?"

Angelica looked like she might faint.

She couldn’t understand why Logan was siding with Selina. Did they... really sleep together last night?

But why? What did Selina have that she didn’t?

Selina ignored her and turned to Mr. Butler, mocking, "You said I seduced you? I already have a husband like Logan—why on earth would I go after you? What could I possibly want from you?"

Exactly. Logan hadn’t denied anything. Which meant Selina really had spent the night with him. If Mr. Reid hadn’t rejected her, why would she go cheat with an older, less attractive, less powerful man?

Selina tucked her hair behind her ear. "Mrs. Butler, you might want to take a closer look at the people around you. Stop jumping to conclusions. Just because Angelica says something doesn’t make it true. Are you sure I’m the one your husband’s sleeping with?"

Mrs. Butler stumbled back a few steps, then spun around and grabbed Mr. Butler by the collar, screaming, "TELL ME! Which tramp did you sleep with?!"

From the crowd, Miss White tried to slip away—but Jack caught her red-handed.

"Look—Miss White’s got hickeys on her neck too!"

"And come to think of it... didn’t her room have some weird noises last night?"
