Her heart felt a weight settle in, and her grip on the glass tightened without her realizing it. Yet, she kept a composed face, determined not to become the subject of others' amusement.

The reporters soon dispersed, restoring a calm hush to the ballroom. The event organizer approached Everett personally, expressing gratitude and carefully handing over the Heart of the Ocean necklace.

Joy watched eagerly from the sidelines. As soon as the host left, she blurted out, “Everett, you're amazing to me. Could you do me the honor of putting this necklace on me?”

Everett opened the beautifully crafted velvet box, his fingers lightly tracing the necklace, but he didn’t take it out. Instead, he closed the box again.
