“So, you wanted to be Izzy’s main caretaker?” Alcaraz asked, arms crossed. “How did you even get out?”
Amalia leaned back in the chair across from her, legs crossed neatly, looking far too comfortable for someone who’d just stepped out of prison. “My release is none of your business,” she said. “I’m her only living relative. It’s my responsibility now.”
Atty. Alcaraz didn’t move.
“I want to know where she is,” Amalia continued. “I’ll be the one taking care of things–medical, legal, estate matters. Everything. Also,” she added, pulling a paper from her purse, “I’d like you to represent my daughter Monica. She’s still being held for that incident with Cecil Weiss. You’ll find the case details attached.”
Maria didn’t look at the folder. “Is that it?”
“No. I also want to be with Isabella. Twenty–four seven. I want access to her doctors, her schedule, her security. I’ll make sure she gets better.”
Atty. Alcaraz blinked once, then let out a short laugh. “You’re insane.”
Amalia frowned.
“You think I’m going to give you access to the same woman you’ve spent years stealing from?” Alcaraz said. “Do you even hear what you’re saying?”
Amalia placed both hands on the armrest and leaned forward. “I knew you’d say that. That’s why I came prepared.”
She stood, opened her purse, and pulled out her phone. She tapped a number quickly, then held it to her ear.
“Come in,” she said.
A few seconds later, the outer office door opened again. Alcaraz’s assistant turned from her desk, ready to intercept, but a tall man in a tailored gray suit brushed past her and entered without hesitation.
“Who is this?” Alcaraz asked, watching him.
Amalia turned with a small smile. “This is David Holt. My attorney.”
David gave Alcaraz a nod, then pulled a folder from his briefcase and set it on her desk.
“We’re filing for emergency guardianship over Isabella Rossi’s estate and medical decisions,” he said. “As per Amalia Rossi’s claim as the closest blood relative, and in light of her current condition, we believe this is a reasonable request.”
“That includes medical access, financial oversight, and legal control over any contractual matters, including those involving the Rossi Group,” David continued. “We’ll be filing it in two hours. But we’re giving you the courtesy of reviewing it now.”
Atty. Alcaraz opened the folder. One glance told her they were serious. She shut it again.
Amalia sat back down, satisfied. “Now, are you going to tell me where my niece is, or should we let the court decide?”
“Well…” Maria leaned back. “I really do appreciate the effort-”
“Ma’am, we have a problem,” one of Lawyer Alcaraz’s assistants rushed in, with a panicked look on her face. However, before she could tell her what the problem was, a group of men wearing black suits walked in.
“Who are you and what-”

Chapter 205
An old voice echoed from the hallway. “Maria… it’s nice seeing you.”
Atty. Alcaraz turned her head and stood slowly. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she saw who it was. Gregory Vasili stepped into the room with the ease of someone who never waited to be invited. He was flanked by two suited men and trailed by his grandson, Frederik.
Maria didn’t move from her position behind the desk.
“Mr. Vasili,” she said evenly. “Your meeting was scheduled for forty minutes from now. May I ask what compelled you to disregard the schedule and walk into my office without an appointment?”
Gregory didn’t bother with a scat. He scanned the room briefly, then fixed his eyes on Amalia.
“I heard there was a conversation happening about Miss Rossi’s future,” he said. “Given the urgency, I saw no reason to delay.”
Maria kept her expression blank. Frederik stepped forward.
“The board is concerned,” he said. “With Miss Rossi’s condition becoming a liability.”

Gregory gave a subtle nod to David Holt, who remained quiet.

David Holt stepped forward again, adjusting the file on the desk. “The petition is backed by precedent. And we have no evidence that Miss Rossi had legally appointed another guardian prior to her hospitalization. Given that, the court is likely to approve Amalia’s motion.”
Maria flipped open the file again, this time slower. She scanned the document and closed it calmly. Then looked up.
“Do you think a motion filed by someone who embezzled funds from the very estate she’s now trying to control will survive a hearing? You must be joking.”
Gregory finally sat.
“If you deny her access, you’re leaving the board with no choice.”
“I’m not the board,” Maria said. “And I don’t respond to threats made in my office.”
