Having hung up the call with my mother, I sank to my bed, completely exhausted.

Although I told myself not to think of the past, my mind was out of my control.

I couldn’t help recalling the past. I thought of my first meeting with Rocco. It was Joyce who brought him to me.

As I remembered, that day, he was wearing a black tracksuit. When he nailed a 3–point shot, all the girls on the court were screaming for him.

But he just ran to me and took away the half bottle of water in my hand.

He asked Joyce, “Who’s this? How come I’ve never met her before?”

Girls could easily fall for him at first sight.

So did I.

I fell in love with him, whatever it took.

For his sake, I cut ties with my family and agreed to be his secret lover for five years.

Three days after I broke up with Rocco, Joyce learned that my five–year relationship was over. She asked me out for dinner and felt shocked to know I was getting married.

Sitting next to me, she stared at me anxiously.

“Laurie, I don’t know who the boyfriend you’ve hidden for five years is, but you can’t just marry some random guy for a jerk.”

I smiled, “I’m not that fragile. I’ve thought it over before deciding to marry him.

“And he’s not a random guy. He’s… well, a childhood friend of mine, except that we haven’t met for a long time.”

I didn’t lie. Luciano was actually the fiancé my parents arranged for me while we were kids.

If I hadn’t met Rocco, I’d have long been Mrs. Garrett.

Joyce was still worried about me. She really cared about me.

I pinched her face.

“Alright. Don’t be upset. You gotta be my bridesmaid at my wedding.”

“What bridesmaid?”

As the compartment door was pushed open, Rocco walked in casually.

This time, his date was another woman.

Rocco stood in the center of the room and glanced around before fixing his eyes on me.

“Who’s getting married?”

I stopped Joyce from answering him and said, “Nothing. What brought you here?”

His date stepped forward and acted like an innocent girl.

“I asked Rocco to bring me here. I wanna meet his family and friends.

“Hello, I’m Helen Barker.”

Somehow, I felt Helen was hostile toward me.

Joyce didn’t think much. She just took Helen to grab a drink.

Rocco sat next to me. Under the dim light, he was shaking the glass in his hand.

“Are you starting to see anyone?”

I took a glance at him.

“Do you care so much about my personal life?”

Rocco tittered and approached me. He stared at me with intrigue.
