Bitterness and resentment swelled within me.
As soon as Marie spotted me, she came over with a fake show of affection.
"Eileen, I've been waiting for you forever. Come on. My birthday wouldn't be perfect without you."
She grabbed my hand and pulled me to the center, introducing me to her friends.
"This is my sister. She used to be an amazing dancer. I'm so envious."
Marie's friends giggled and looked at me with mischievous eyes, and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
Then suddenly, one of the guys spoke up, "Marie, since your sister can dance, why not have her do a birthday dance for you?"
"Yeah!" Another girl chimed in, "We wanna see something sexy, like those strippers outside."
I tightened my grip on my shirt and glanced at Noah, but he didn't look at me once. He just gazed fondly at Marie.
"Come on, Eileen, my friends wanna see you dance. Can you do it for my birthday? Please!"
Marie pouted with a cocky grin.
"Well, she needs a drink first to get into the mood."
Suddenly, nine bottles of vodka were slapped down in front of me, and that guy winked.
"Hey, drink this, and you'll dance even better. Don't be shy. We're all pretty open-minded here."
"Are you not willing, Eileen?" Marie frowned, looking timidly at me.
She had her back to Noah, but I could see the malice in her eyes.
"Well then, Noah, maybe we shouldn't pressure her like this."
"It's my excitement that's led me to forget that my sister hates me."
Marie turned back and acted like a baby in front of Noah.
Finally, Noah looked at me, but his expression was indifferent as if none of this concerned him.
"Eileen, have you forgotten what I asked you to do?"
I clenched my fists and grabbed a bottle of vodka, tipping it back.
The burning liquid felt awful in my gut, the painkillers I took felt pointless at that moment.
But I didn't stop, downing more vodka amidst the cheers of Marie's friends.
By the time I finished all nine bottles, my vision was already blurry.
