We spend the rest of the morning and a good part of the afternoon exploring, until Jake decides we need to make our way back.

Thinking about my failed attempt at mind linking earlier, I remembered I never was able to ask the question I wished.

"Why were you in Tyler's office today working?"

He hesitates to respond and I bump my shoulder against his to demand him to cough it up.

"As soon as Tyler got news you were coming out of heat, he marked Anna. He needed to make sure one of us was available for pack duties, and knowing we'd be okay, he marked her last night."

I slowed down quite a bit shocked. Anna must have gotten really cozy with Tyler to have let him mark her. Either that or-

"How'd Anna been?" I blurt out, a little too obnoxiously, as Jake looks at me questionably.

"She's been okay. I heard she settled well this past week." I let out a sigh of relief hearing this. As long as she was okay then I was happy.

Jake was boasting about how he was going to make me a romantic dinner tonight, since it was our first night after our mating, but as soon as the house came in view, we were greeted by a group of serious looking men.

"Jake! Come quick! Your mother just received a letter from a vamp."

Jake grabbed my wrist and we hurried inside.

We were ushered down the hallway of Tyler's office, but instead of entering we walked into a room across the hall. It resembled a conference room so its location actually made much sense.

There were many people in the room, although Melissa and I were the only woman. David was there, extremely tense, along with many face I already recognized from the pack.

"What happened?" Jake questions clearly. They all seemed intent on listening, and I feel proud of his importance and what respect he gets.

"This letter was dropped on the doorstep. It smells like them," David growls, sliding it across the table to him. "they must have been on the territory. It's addressed to Mrs. Anderson."

I realized that Anderson must be Jake's last name, and was astounded to realized I'd never asked him that before.
