Jake somehow gets out of the hold the guards had on him, and jumps towards Luca. My scream dies in the night as he shifts and lands on top of the cruel vampire. I feel victorious for a second, before Jake is flying off Luca and smashing into a tree. I turn to run to him, before the guards hold me back, making me stare at him, helplessly laying there motionless.

"Leave. Now." Tyler orders, which doesn't have much of an effect on the vampires at all.

"We don't think we will." Luca sneers. "In fact we will keep coming back, and keep returning, until that girl is ours. Don't forget we are regret-less creatures, and since you think you can break the rules, then believe me when I say no person, human or werewolf, will come between us when we return to get her. So think of that next time your sending your warriors out to be slaughtered."

He's gone after that. They disappear like a gust of wind, leaving us alone again.

"Jake!" I screamed, pushing out of the arms that were restraining me. I ran to his form on the ground and sat next to him. He was in his wolf form, so I curled my fingers in his brown fur and laid across his chest.

"He's going to be fine." One of the nameless warrior assures me. I nod my head to tell him I believe him, because I do. I understand how indestructible they can be.

"He most likely hit his head, probably a concussion, a minor one if that." Tyler tells me. A few of them step forward and attempt to carry his lifeless body. Three muscular guards later, we're making our way towards the pack house.

"Tyler, how does a vampire turn a human?" I ask, because the silence is unnerving to me without Jake.

"A vampire will find a body, one that only just died, and bite them, releasing their venom into their slowing bloodstream. They must do it relatively quick though, because at a certain point the transition won't work." I nod my head instead of responding before thinking of a better question.

"So why are we concerned with them a lot if they can't multiply but wolves can? He said it himself that us wolves can make pups but they can't transform people."

"Well in a way it's still the same because even though they haven't gained in numbers, they still have the same amount they started with. Although we gain wolves, we lose wolves too. Although extended, our lives are not immortal like theirs."

"Oh." I say, extending the little word out. "That makes sense."

After that I don't ask anything else, remembering my questions to ask Jake later.

When we enter the pack house, Jake still being carried in his huge wolf form, Anna greets Tyler with a frantic embrace. I can see how concerned she must have been. She greets me after Tyler.

"I'm so glad you're okay! Not that I thought anything bad would happen. Usually I just tend to think of the worst situation. Like what if Tyler had-" I stop her frantic talking by yanking her into a hug.
