Kaylee's POV

I woke up in my apartment.

Jax was sitting beside me, head drooping.

He was asleep too.

Dressed in designer clothes, Jax looked completely out of place in my shabby little rental, but after a moment's consideration, I decided not to wake him.

I took a blanket and gently draped it over his shoulders.

He woke up instantly.

The second he was conscious, he grabbed my wrist: "Don't even think about running."

I startled.

"Kaylee, I've already checked every inch of this place. There's obviously no rich husband. Say one more lie and you're done."

Three years ago, after meeting with Mrs. Puth, I'd come home with a designer bag, telling Jax a wealthy man wanted to marry me and I was leaving him.

"Between you and money, of course I choose money."

Now, with the lies completely exposed, I sat on the bed in silence.

Jax stood up. He was so tall, looking down at me with an intimidating presence: "Kaylee, after all this time, you're not still going to claim you never loved me, are you?"

"I didn't," I said. "I was just using you for your body."

I deliberately provoked him: "An eighteen-year-old with a body like that, and for free? I'd have been stupid not to take advantage."

As expected, Jax was deeply provoked.

Just not in the way I anticipated.

He yanked up his shirt.
