Audrey remarked, "Michael, don't comfort me. You're not out of your mind, so why would you risk your future working here?

"Don't worry about explaining things to Alistair. I'll help you out. You want to join my company, but I won't accept you."

As soon as Audrey said she didn't want him, Michael panicked.

He was so desperate that he raised his hands and swore, "Ms. Rhodes, you have to believe me. I'm not crazy. I've thought this through very carefully before pursuing this opportunity."

Audrey still wasn't convinced and asked, "Then tell me, why would you give up the high pay at the Hayes Group to join me here?"

She was sure Michael couldn't come up with a good reason.

To her surprise, Michael remained calm and replied, "Ms. Rhodes, to be honest, I'm about to get married, and my fiancée is from Riverdale."

With a guilty expression, Michael continued, "We've been in a long-distance relationship for years. She was always the one traveling to Willowdale to see me, and I rarely had time to spend with her.

"This job gives me the chance to settle in Riverdale. If I couldn't work here, our relationship might face a crisis."

Michael and his girlfriend loved each other deeply, and over the years she had made a lot of sacrifices for him.

Michael nodded without hesitation and replied, "Of course. Don't you understand Mr. Hayes' nature by now? How could he ever make things hard for his team?

"Don't you trust me, Ms. Rhodes? Is that your way of rejecting me?"

Audrey shook her hand and sincerely said, "No, it's not like that. I see how capable you've been during these past few days. Although Emily is careful and thoughtful, she gets overwhelmed during big events and doesn't handle things as well as you do.

"I've been considering hiring another person to assist me along with her. If you can join, that would be perfect."

Audrey wasn't complimenting Michael.
