It was even more painful that she didn’t know who this person was. She’d sent multiple texts to the anonymous sender since then but just like the first time, she hadn’t gotten a reply. 

Galen brought up conversations about her day and how the contract signing had gone. Sylvie found it really nice having the man in this mood. 

Along the line, she looked ahead and caught sight of June on the balcony, glaring down at them. At her. 

Sylvie lowered her gaze, deciding to ignore her. She could continue glaring at her as long as she didn’t get in her way. 

Galen also talked about the Queen’s birthday dress which Sylvie was already working on. The birthday was only two weeks from. now. So, Sylvie had limited time to get it ready, then fly over to style it on the Queen. 

Aside the new duplex Galen had gifted her, he promised her an extra gift for being the one to make the Queen’s dress. Sylvie ̧ never imagined the day would come when her grandfather would be so proud of her. 

They were in the middle of a conversation when Astrid walked in on them, wearing a lovely red dress with heels. 

“Hi, Grandpa.” She dipped her head at man who simply nodded. 

Sylvie sipped from her tea, pretending not to notice the dagger Astrid has thrown at her from her eyes. 

“I’m stepping out to meet with Kage Hawkins.” Astrid revealed to Galen, but it was Sylvie who got the shockwave. 

It was a good thing she was already setting the tea cup down on the table, else, it might have spilled from her hand. “Mr. Hawkins?” Galen looked up at her. “Is there something going on with you two?” 

Astrid blushed. “Well…you could say that. We’ve been communicating for some days now, and today, he invited me to dinner.” 

Sylvie bit her inner cheeks, willing herself to remain calm. It shouldn’t mean anything to her. It was Kage’s business if he wanted to date all the women in the country. It shouldn’t mean a thing to her. 

“Doesn’t he have a girlfriend?” Galen grumpily asked. “First, it’s June cheating on Lex, now it’s you wanting to date someone else’s man. Is this a new trend with the young generation?” 

Astrid’s smile faded. When she came up to tell him about Kage, she definitely wasn’t expecting that kind of reaction from him. 

She chuckled nervously, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “I believe Kage is a grown man who can make the right decisions.” 

Galen huffed, picking up his cup of tea. 

Astrid bid him bye, smirked at Sylvie then walked away, heading to her car.

It was the most boring dinner date Astrid had ever had. That was because Kage barely said a word to her the whole time, simply focused on his meal. It was on her to bring up conversations, and most times, he sounded bothered. 

The dinner was agonizing for Astrid. He was there, yet it was as if he wasn’t. She couldn’t touch him, couldn’t hear any jokes from him. At some point, she began to wonder why he’d invited her over when he didn’t have any Intentions of talking to 

her.

But she was grateful in the end that she got to eat with him at least. The man was effortlessly charming, and being seen in public with him should be enough for her.

The following morning, Galen informed Sylvie they’d be having dinner with an important family that evening. Sylvie had tried asking which family it easy, but he simply told her it was a surprise. 

Driving out of the gate, she was shocked to see Cindy stepping out of a car, corporately dressed. 

Apparently, Cindy had been waiting patiently in her car for Syivic to come out. She didn’t want to create a scene by going into the house. 

Sylvie stopped her car, her brows furrowed. Then, she laughed before going out. 

“Are you, maybe, visiting someone in the neighborhood? Or is this intentional?” She asked with amusement in her voice. 

Cindy looked wounded. The look in her eyes said it all. And the satisfaction that gave to Sylvie… 

“What do you think you’re doing?” Cindy demanded, her hand tightening around the strap of her mini bag. 

Sylvie looked around, feigning confusion. “Me? I’m simply heading to work. Why do you ask?” 

“Don’t try to be funny. You know what I’m talking about!” The words came through gritted teeth. “Four! That’s how many clients you’ve taken from in the last three days.” 

A smile spread across Sylvie’s face. “I’m only doing business. I don’t really see a problem.” 

Cindy was losing her mind. She scoffed, then went closer. “Are you trying to get back at me for something?” 

Sylvie held her gaze defiantly. “Is there something I should get back for? Seems you’re also aware you hurt me.” 

“Seriously? That was four years ago, Syivie. It’s in the past.” 

A dark glint crossed Sylvie’s eyes. In the past!? Seriously? Her twins were dead, partly because of it. Its been four years, yet the pain still ran deep. 

Right there, she was tempted to hit Cindy hard in the face. The lady that used to be her bestfriend. 

But she pulled on her restraints and took a step back. “If you need to mourn the loss of your clients, you know where a bar is. Afterall, I visited it a lot four years ago when Kage broke up with me–because of you.” 

She turned away, heading to her car. 

“Sylvie!” Cindy growled harshly. 

Standing by the driver’s seat, Sylvie looked at her again. “You know, it feels good seeing you this way–broken and hurt. I hope it lasts a while longer.” 

She lowered into the driver’s seat and took off. 

Work was just as fine as every other day for Syivie. 

At midday, she reached a mini Mart, bought some snacks and went over to her ‘favourite‘ school. 

The kids were already waiting outside the gate when she reached and ran into her arms for a hug.

“How was school today?” She asked, and Aura being the talkative told Sylvie all about her day, including the things that had happened in class. 

Asher smiled at the funny things she said while swinging his legs. Sylvie couldn’t think of anything more entertaining. 

“Did you get scolded by mum yesterday? I mean, when you got home?” She asked when Aura was done with her narration. 

“Not really. She just kept making side comments on the way, but as soon as we got home, she forgot about us as always.” Aura replied. 

“Forgot about you? How?” 

Aura hesitated. Sylvie reached for her small hand, squeezing it in hers. “Honey, you can talk to me. I’m your friend, remember?”
