Susanna gripped her handbag straps tightly, looking at Zachary as she proposed a different deal. “Fine, I’ll testify for you, but only on one condition: marry me. Agree to that, and I’m in. What do you say?”

What Susanna regretted most wasn’t her decision to get closer to Zachary after listening to Johanne’s. advice, but that her realization came too late.

When Johanne turned around and married Mallory, she should have seen it–Johanne was never reliable. He had never considered marrying her; all those sweet words were just a means to use her.

It was a shame that back then, she was so fixated, hopelessly in love with Johanne. She insisted that Johanne divorce Mallory, to give her some closure.

As one might expect, she was pushed to the brink by Johanne, leaving her no choice but to flee abroad.

Seeing Susanna remain silent, Zachary said, “Whatever resources you need, feel free to ask.”

Taking a deep breath, Susanna smoothed her hair back from her temples. “I think, there’s no need to specify anything. Simply restoring my resources to their previous state would suffice.”

With a smile, Susanna said, “There’s a banquet in a few days, I hope you can accompany me. After the banquet, I’ll head to the police station to testify.”

Zachary paused for a moment. “All right.” 

Susanna couldn’t help but scoff. “You really would do anything for her, wouldn’t you? Aren’t you afraid she might misunderstand if she sees?”

“You don’t need to worry about this.”

Lenora noticed something off about Susanna’s gaze toward her, as if she was scrutinizing and sizing her up. It had been like this since early morning, with her constantly bossing her around, even losing her temper over trivial matters.

Even though Kenneth was her biological father, he was utterly useless, dying in such a pathetic manner.

Lenora raised an eyebrow in surprise, chuckling at herself sarcastically. “Should I give it to you then?”
