Cole rushed in with an anxious expression, worry evident on his face. "Reese, are you okay?"

He had just learned from Chloe that something had happened to Reese.

He felt extremely guilty. If he hadn't been careless, Reese might not have been in this situation.

Lukas was displeased with Cole. The fact that Reese had breakfast with Cole didn't sit well with him, and his expression showed it.

He glared at Cole, his tone harsh. "You could have waited until you found out before bringing her to the hospital. She might not have survived. Do you understand how serious this could have been?"

Cole looked apologetically at Reese. "Reese, I'm sorry. I only just found out."

Cole nodded. "But to be honest, we're really lucky that Mr Strakovski was here today."

Reese made a humming sound but didn't say anything.

After some thought, Cole spoke again. "Ava has heard about your allergy and has rushed to Menkerios."

Reese furrowed her brow. "How did she find out?"

Cole looked a bit embarrassed. "I received a call from her as soon as I learned about your allergy. I was worried about you at the time, so I couldn't help but tell her."

Reese understood that Cole was acting out of concern for her. She pressed her lips together. "Could you pick her up from the airport later? I have to wait here for the results of the Heart of the Sea Jewelry Competition. It'd be a good opportunity for me to spend time with her."

Cole nodded. "No problem. I'll head over there now."

Reese nodded in agreement.

Cole visited Reese in the hospital and then hurried to the airport.

With her eyes closed, Reese had intended to keep an eye on the IV bag, but she must have dozed off, as she was unaware of when the needle was removed.

When Reese woke up again, she saw Lukas sitting on the sofa in the hospital room. The light cast a halo of shadows on his profile, inexplicably giving off an air of melancholy.

"How are you feeling?" Lukas looked up and quietly observed her.

Reese pursed her lips, her voice hoarse. "Much better."

Lukas got up and fetched a glass of water for her. "Have some water first."

Reese looked at him as he handed her the glass, feeling an unexpected warmth. Perhaps due to her illness, she had become more fragile.

She took a couple of sips from the glass and then earnestly thanked Lukas. "Mr. Strakovski, regardless of what happened before, I truly appreciate your help today. If it weren't for you, I might have..."

Lukas's expression tightened when she mentioned the past. His tone turned colder. "Just say thank you and leave it at that. Don't bring up unnecessary matters."

Reese wanted to say something else, but she realized that Ava had already hung up.

When Ava saw Cole, the light in her eyes dimmed momentarily. That was because she noticed Chloe and Cole standing not far away at a corner.

From Ava's perspective, she could clearly see them, but they couldn't see her.

Chloe reached out to hold Cole's hand, and Cole didn't resist.

Although Chloe was cautious, Cole showed no signs of rejection. His expression was filled with tolerance.
