She was striding ahead at full speed, while he struggled to keep up, dragging a suitcase in one hand.

"Pick up the pace, Mike. My uncles are all waiting!" she called over her shoulder, not missing a beat in scolding him as she walked.

He rolled his eyes so hard he nearly saw stars. "Well, maybe you could try carrying your own suitcase!"

Lexie's face lit up with surprise, and she hurried over. "Brady! I'm surprised you're the one picking me up!"

"I knew you were coming back, so I figured I'd come get you myself."

Brady Winslow was Lexie's sixth paternal cousin. He glanced briefly at Mike, his gaze sharp but with a hint of approval.

"Heard you were bringing a friend home, so I drove the new car. I didn't embarrass you, did I?"

"Embarrass me? Please. He knows exactly what our family's about."

She waved Mike into the car, and they headed north out of town.
