Chapter 250: "I am scared, baby."

The royal vampire castle stood tall in the dead of night, with thick clouds hanging low behind it. Now and then, flashes of lightning lit up the sky, making the towers glow brightly for a moment.

Inside the castle, by one of the many balconies, the king could be seen staring into the night with restless eyes that had been there ever since the day he had failed to kill the mad vampire. If his nephew still lived, King Zion knew he would come for him—and though he was prepared, he feared he wasn’t prepared enough.

Had he known things would turn out like this, he wouldn’t have acted during the hunt. Now, not only did he have his nephew to worry about, but he also had Aragonia constantly bothering him since the day they sent a letter demanding that their girl return home for a visit—it had been over six months since her marriage.

They had agreed on paper that she would return to her homeland every six months for a visit, and if she failed to do so in any given month, they would assume something had happened to her and would wage war against them.

Now, he had no idea where the human girl or his nephew were, making it impossible for him to try and make everything work out. He was caught in a dilemma on both sides.

It was said the human had run away during the hunt, and though King Zion had a feeling his children were involved, he hadn’t cared, after all, she was a mere human who had been of no use to his plans of getting rid of his nephew anymore. But now, he no longer thought that way.

He needed to find the human girl and compel her to return to her homeland for a few weeks. But when he questioned his children after the hunt, they claimed they had no idea what had happened to her. There was no dead body found, no traces of her or his nephew.

Aragonia had even threatened to join hands with Bimmerville if the girl did not return home within a month. Where was he supposed to look for this useless human? the king wondered as he sipped from his blood wine and stared out into the night. All he ever wanted was for one of his sons to carry on the throne, but it seemed fate was playing with him in the cruelest way possible.

Bimmerville was not to be reckoned with. For years, Nightbrook had never taken a single human from their people as slaves. To ensure peace, he had sent their king ten thousand chests of gold every year, just to prevent him from even thinking of going against Nightbrook. It was that wealth that kept the land thriving and made it one of the richest. If any vampire didn’t enter Bimmerville, then they in turn never came hunting within Nightbrook.

Now that Aragonia was threatening them, he did not know what both human lands would do. What if Bimmerville’s king decided to betray them after all the wealth he had taken from them in the past years? He couldn’t take the chance of any way now.

King Zion was still thinking hard on how to find this human girl when his spine stiffened as he felt like someone was watching him from behind, inside his dim chamber. He was a pure-blood vampire with sharpened senses, and even the slightest presence could not go unnoticed by him.

Turning to the direction, he belatedly noticed every single lamp in the room was suddenly turned out and the place was plunged into darkness. He made no attempt to walk back inside from the balcony to inspect what had caused the lights to go off themselves.

Bracing himself on the balcony, he scanned the chamber as he could still make out shadows in the darkness.

He caught sight of a tall figure.

"Who is there?" he demanded, and then, using his mind link, he sent signals to every vampire guard he shared a link with.

"I am not an enemy, Zion," came the voice from the darkened chamber. "I am here to help you conquer an enemy." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
