Nadine bolted out of the room. By the time Brad managed to sit up in bed, she was already long gone. He stared at the now-closed hospital room door and shook his head with a wry smile. "Guess I underestimated her!"

His family had funded Seraphina's studies abroad, and while Brad and Seraphina had a good relationship, it was strictly platonic—nothing more, nothing less.

His grandfather's illness had dragged on for too long and, due to his old age, was mostly unconscious. Desperate to speed up his grandfather's recovery, Brad had called Seraphina to treat him. But unexpectedly, he ended up having a heart attack as well.

As soon as he thought about the fact that his heart attack was caused by Jack, his blood boiled. He needed to teach Nadine a lesson. Brad vowed she would experience what it felt like to be used as a replacement.

While he was still thinking about how to handle Nadine, Seraphina pushed the door open and walked in. "Mr. Hamilton, how have you been feeling these past few days? Any better?"

Brad immediately straightened up, offering her a polite smile. "Much better. Thank you for asking, Dr. Hawthorne."

Noticing that she was staring at his collar, he immediately adjusted his hospital gown. "Did you come here to tell me about my grandfather's condition, Dr. Hawthorne? Did something happen?" For Seraphina to come in person, it had to be something significant.

Seraphina waved her hand in denial. "No, Mr. Hamilton Senior's condition hasn't changed. I'm still reviewing the best surgical options for him. Actually, I'm here to introduce you to my assistant. She's young and a little inexperienced in dealing with people, so I hope you'll be patient with her."
