Feeling a chill run down her spine, Xavia had a feeling that Sophia’s statement had something to do with her… and with that in mind, she politely replied, “…Alright, shoot. I’ll share what I can answer…”

“Very well. Tell, what exactly did you do and say to my mother when you first met her?” asked Sophia, leaving Xavia momentarily speechless. The way she was wording it… Was she suspecting her?

Knowing that there was no point beating around the bush, Xavia was about to respond when the prestigious Zivon suddenly walked out and said in a rather stern tone, “Though she’s a person you can reference in your investigation, you’re not her interrogator. Fix your tone.”

Since Zivon had accompanied Sophia throughout the night, he had returned to see Xavia, as well as to take a short nap. Naturally, he was going to be slightly irked by this hullabaloo. Regardless, Sophia was understandably shocked to see Zivon there. Had Zivon actually been sleeping in Xavia’s house amid all her distress…?! That aside, was it wrong of her to question Xavia that way? After all, she was the last one who had contacted her mother before the incident!

As the anguished woman bit her lower lip, she clenched her fists before repeating, “…Could you please tell me what you and my mother conversed about before the incident, Miss Lockhart…?”

By this point, Xavia really wanted to cry. Though she knew that Zivon was only trying to defend her, she couldn’t help but feel that it was only amplifying Sophia’s hate toward her…! Following a subtle sigh, Xavia then began explaining in hopes of clearing out any misunderstandings…

“Well… I first bumped into Madam Young in the garden, and she had pulled me to the side to thank me for my previous help again… Since she was already there, I decided to hand her a gift that I hadn’t been able to pass to her till that point… As for what we talked about… She asked me whether I wanted to be your bridesmaid when you and Young Master Burton got married. She also wanted me to be your child’s godmother.”

“I really couldn’t bear to shatter her hope, so I simply nodded before chatting a bit more and leaving… As far as I could tell, there had been nothing unpleasant throughout our conversation, nor had there been anything off with Madam Young at the time…”

“That…! But that’s impossible…!” replied the startled Xavia. She, for one, couldn’t recall if she had even taken her phone out at the time, but for all this to happen because of a single picture…

“…Do you have any idea how kind my mother is…?! Even when my father fell for another woman, she never held a grudge against him…! Instead, she peacefully took care of me for years…! All she wanted was me to be happy… and over the years, she had watched just how hard I had worked to get closer to Young Master Burton…!”

“With that said, when you agreed to let me have a shot at participating in the blind date, you instantly became a saint in her eyes…! You probably aren’t even aware of how many times I heard her talking about how kind you were…! That she told me to make sure to keep the Lockharts at bay so that they couldn’t continue bullying you…! She sincerely loved you like her very own child…!”

“Yet in the end… Though you said that you’d help me on the surface, you never left Young Master Burton’s side…! Can you imagine how disappointing that must’ve been for her when she found out…?! Just so you know, moments before she died, she told me not to fall for your tricks…! That you were secretly evil…! With all that in mind, I can now safely say that you indirectly caused my mother’s death…!”
