With how icy Zivon’s tone was, the frightened guard quickly replied, “Y-you see, when the prisoners learned about what Jenna had done earlier, they got so angry that they beat her up… She’s passed out at the moment…!”

Upon hearing that, Zivon’s heart instantly sank. He had no idea why he felt that way, but he found himself quickly walking over to Jenna’s cell… and when he saw the unconscious woman lying on the cold, iron bed, he instantly frowned and growled, “For fuck’s sake…! Are things this lawless in all prisons?!”

Zivon’s rage left the guard slightly taken aback. Why was Zivon defending the woman who had hurt his fiancée? And why did it seem like he had been on Jenna’s side this entire time…?

Even Zivon couldn’t tell what was wrong with him. In the end, he simply shook his head and ordered the guard to open the cell. Once inside, he stared at her for a moment before saying, “…Jenna? Jenna! You there! Get a doctor over!”

“W-will do, Young Master Burton, though… Why are you treating her so nicely…?” asked the guard in a meek tone.

Though Zivon was slightly startled by the question, he eventually replied, “…There’s no point in treating death row prisoners this cruelly. Also, she needs to be fully sober when she faces her final punishment.”

…Was that the case? Though Zivon had always been known to do things mercilessly, the guard wasn’t about to challenge his authority! With that, he quickly ran off to do as Zivon had told…

It was found later on that ‘Jenna’s’ injuries weren’t that severe, and her current state was mostly caused by the tranquilizers.

“Don’t worry, she’ll wake up as soon as the drug’s effects end, Young Master Burton,” said the doctor, prompting Zivon to breathe a subtle sigh of relief. Even he found it odd that he was feeling so relieved… and he knew that he wouldn’t be able to relax until he got to the bottom of this.

Following a short pause, he was prompted to say, “…Leave us. I’ll wait for her to get up to interrogate her a bit.”

“Nothing you should worry about, though… with how angry you seem, it appears that you care a lot about Jenna.”

“As I’ve said, I absolutely hate it when you treat Miss Lockhart so half-heartedly…! That aside… who did this to her?” replied the irked Ian as he raised a slight brow at the sight of the unconscious woman.

By this point, the guard’s face had gone paler than a sheet. Both Zivon and the Grand Duke had shown up! Was Jenna that well-known?! Shaking his head, the guard quickly reported, “M-Miss Xavia came over to pay Jenna a visit earlier, and Jenna ended up attacking her! When the inmates learned of that, they beat her up! We had nothing to do with this…!”

“She did what…?! I see…! That does it! Execute her two hours in advance!” declared the enraged Ian.
