She walked slowly between the throng of burly men that pushed and shoved at one another over the pretty girl sitting on their friends lap.

"I says I saw her first ye old goat," one argued.

"Old goat ye mum is," the other retorted before slamming his fist into the other mans face.

A scuffle between them began and she was shoved on the side and pushed into another man. Falling back she fell into the lap of the man and came face to face with a scowling scarred face. Her breath lodged in her throat as she watched the bearded mans scowl lighten into a wicked smile as her hood fell and her hair fell around her face.

He licked his lips and his grin got wider with yellow teeth some missing.

Bile rose in her stomach as he spoke and his rancid breath brushed her face.

"Well look wot we ave here."

Softly she placed her hand on her dagger. She could not afford to show any fear. His strong hands curled around her waist as she began to stand. Quickly with a thud he sat her on the table and stood looking over her shoulder with a hearty laugh.

"Smitty looks wot fell into me lap," he gave a laugh that shivered up her spine.

A sharp pain came to her head as her hair was pulled to snap her head back to look into the face of the man behind her.

She was met with another battle scared face that was dirty and held a long unkept beard.

He reaked worse then the man before her, so much she wanted to wretch.

He came around to face her beside the other man. At this point she noticed that the tavern grew quiet. All eyes were on her.

The man to her left licked his lips and the other began pawing at her. Quickly she unsheathed her dagger and pointed it at them, backing away from him over the table.

His hearty laugh unnerved her as he slapped away her dagger and the other man caught her ankle.

"Now, now pretty lass all we want is a taste of ye." he raked her body hungrily with his stare.

Her heart rattled in her chest so hard it hurt. Anger and fright coursed through her veins.

With a blink of an eye, she kicked him so hard in the face he flew back against another table. She rolled to the other side of her table grabbing her dagger. Now in a defensive stance she stood to face the other man.

She watched frantically as the other man stood from the ground and joined him.

She listened to the snicker and hoots from those that sat and watched.

"Come now Smitty, yer letin a mere child best ye and a girl at that," a man yelled.

The tavern shook with their laughter.

Whatever it did, it angered him and he charged for her. She backed away and bumped into another man that felt it a good time join in and hold her down by her arms.

She kicked and fought all she could, by the time she knew it she was being dragged to a nearby staircase.

The hooping, claps and laughs died down and the tavern grew quiet. All but her struggles and their curses were heard.

"Let her go" a deep voice ordered.

She gasped immediately and stopped struggling.

Sweet mary!

It was Gavin.
