Officer Baldwin stared in disbelief at No. 13, noticing his bloodshot eyes, as if he'd been crying tears of blood.

"Leave them all here."

Officer Baldwin was caught off guard. He suddenly remembered what Nathalie had said: "If he accepts these gifts, then I'll know for sure he's my brother."

"No. 13, do you know that woman, Ashley?"

No. 13 lifted his eyes, shimmering with unshed tears, but beneath that glossiness, his dark pupils conveyed a strong, intimidating presence. "I have nothing to do with her."

Officer Baldwin recognized that look all too well; it was the fierce protectiveness of a mother guarding her young. He quickly raised his hands to reassure him, "Don't worry, I would never use her."

The tension in No. 13's eyes began to ease.

Officer Baldwin softly murmured, "But she said you're her brother?"

"No," he denied firmly.

Officer Baldwin looked at him. "You saved my daughter; you're a great benefactor to my family. So rest assured, I will consider your feelings."

After a pause, he continued, "Since you've been locked up, only Ashley has kept coming to see you. I can see she's probably the best person to you, the one you care about the most. You're scared of dragging her down, so you don't dare to see her. But have you thought about how she might feel, not knowing how you are?"

No. 13 replied, "And what if she sees me?"

That crybaby, if she saw his crippled legs, his severe eye condition, and his body covered in injuries, with not a single spot untouched—wouldn't she cry her heart out?

Besides, it wasn't just his body that was damaged; his heart was too. If someone as kind as her knew he was an economic criminal, would she still hold him in high regard?

Once he calmed down, he opened the second box.

Seeing the insulated food container and a stack of books inside, he was completely taken aback.

This was Nathalie's promise to him.

"Nathan, when your sister grows up, she'll earn money so you can have warm clothes, enough food, and an education."
