Greta finally signed the divorce papers Cameron had prepared, her face etched with bitterness. Cameron stared blankly at her, and as he scribbled his name on the dotted line, a sharp pain pierced his heart.

It hurt. Oh, it hurt.

The girl he had loved since they were young, the one he had once sprinted towards with all his might, and here they were, at the bitter end.

He stood up, swaying a bit. "I'll be at the registry office in a month to wrap things up. Oh, and the house is already on the market. You should start packing and find a new place soon."

As Greta finished signing, she stood, only to realize she felt completely drained.

"Cameron, how did we get to this point?" she asked, her eyes red and puffy.

Cameron had mulled over this question plenty of times before. Without much thought, he replied, "Our troubles started the moment we began plotting against Nellie."

Greta's eyes flashed with anger. "Yes, Nellie. She's the reason our family fell apart, why we're torn to shreds. Cameron, you can't forget to make her pay."

But Cameron remained calm. "Greta, we can't put this all on her. We wronged her first. Let's let the hatred end with us."

Greta looked at him incredulously. "How did you get so weak?"

Cameron met her gaze, steady and unwavering. "It's not weakness. It's understanding. I've finally learned to see things from her side."

He stepped closer to Greta. "After we got married, seeing you upset when I got home late, or talked to other women, or sometimes ignored you... I always had to tiptoe around your feelings. That's when I realized how harsh I had been to Nellie."

"Because I didn't love her, she had nowhere to turn with her hurt. You said she held grudges, but it was us who didn't fix the damage we caused her. Now that she hates me, I oddly find some peace in it."

"Why do you hate me?" Greta asked.

"I don't know. There are plenty of reasons. I hate you for not being grateful after Nathalie gave you her kidney, for fighting her for attention, for using my love for you to keep me tied to your side, breaking her heart. Why else would she have left the country? Why would she have met someone like Nathan?"

He moved closer to Greta, "If Nathan hadn't fallen for her, why would he go to such lengths to bring down the four families? For her revenge?"

Greta pushed against his chest, sobbing, "It wasn't me, it wasn't me..."

"Greta, you're a curse." Cameron's words were like a guillotine, slicing through Greta and leaving her metaphorically in pieces.

After saying that, Cameron picked up his coat and stumbled out.
