"What on earth?"

"He's been to prison?"

"And he's got a bad leg?"

"How does he have the nerve to think my daughter can't live without him?"

After Lizzy dropped off the desserts for Morris, she couldn't find him anywhere. She turned to Lincoln in a bit of a panic, "Uncle, where's Mr. Nathan?"

Lincoln, with a smug look, replied, "He's gone."

Lizzy's face drained of color, and the fruit platter she was holding slipped from her grasp, crashing to the floor.

Lincoln narrowed his eyes, sensing something amiss. "Lizzy, he's an ex-con. Your lady being involved with someone like that is incredibly risky. How could you keep something this big from me?"

Lizzy was frantic, "Uncle, you have to find Mr. Morris and bring him back. If my sister comes home and doesn't find him, she'll go nuts."

Lincoln was firm, "If it was anyone else, I might let it slide. But this guy is cunning and dangerous. Keeping him around Vivian is a bad idea."

Just then, Nathalie came back.

She parked her car by the entrance and dashed inside, braving the pouring rain.

"Nathan!" Her sweet voice rang out through the hall.

Lizzy sheepishly hid behind Lincoln.

"Uncle, you might want to tell her yourself."

Lincoln grabbed a towel and greeted Nathalie with a smile.

"Vivian, why didn’t you use the basement entrance? You're soaked to the bone." He handed her the towel.

Nathalie carefully unfolded the coat she was holding, revealing a tiny puppy nestled inside.
