Nathalie lay there, staring up at the ceiling, her mind a whirlwind of confusion and panic. Was it possible she had feelings for Morris? And were these embarrassing dreams just her mind's way of dealing with her guilt over that? Not good news, considering Morris was already spoken for.
Across town, Lincoln was also tossing and turning that night. Ever since Morris entered their world, Lincoln's nerves had been on high alert. He could see that Nathalie's feelings for Morris were deep, almost like they were written into her DNA. But he couldn't shake the feeling that Morris wasn't the right guy for her.
Sure, Morris had his challenges, like his disability and that stint in jail, which would make many women think twice.
After a long night of thinking, Lincoln decided: he had to keep Nathalie and Morris apart, whatever it took.
The next morning, Nathalie woke up without the help of an alarm clock. As she made her way downstairs, she was taken aback by how lively the house was.
Lincoln and his brother Dean, who could usually be counted on to argue about anything and everything, were actually playing a game of chess. Out in the garden, Ashley and Morris were taking a leisurely stroll, and in the kitchen, a new maid was busy whipping up lunch.
“Dad, what’s up today?” Nathalie asked Lincoln, clearly puzzled.
Lincoln replied, “Vivian, today is family reunion day, a tradition started by your great-grandfather. Our families might have been at each other's throats for years, but we can't ignore what he set up.”
Nathalie mumbled to herself, “Funny, I don’t remember any family reunions recently.”
Feeling like she didn’t quite fit in with the buzz around her, Nathalie headed upstairs to hang out with her puppy.
Once Nathalie was out of earshot, Dean dropped the act and said to Lincoln, “Does your daughter know you’re planning to sell Morris out?”
