Nathalie knew the old saying about how revenge never ends, but she felt she had nothing to be ashamed of. She wasn’t worried about any consequences coming back to haunt her.

“Where is he?” Nathalie had decided to meet him because of her arrangement with Greta. If she could help Greta find Cameron, then maybe Nathan and her dad could shake off the dark clouds hanging over them.

Almos was thrilled. “It’s fantastic that you’re up for meeting him. Let’s head over there right now.”

Nathalie gave a nod.

Unexpectedly, Almos drove Nathalie for what felt like an eternity, finally pulling up at a village way out on the edges of the Capital. The mountain roads were rough, and the car crawled along. As night began to fall, Nathalie started to regret the whole trip.

“If I’d known it was this far, I would’ve stayed put. Nathan’s waiting for me back home,” she sighed in frustration.

Almos assured her, “We’re nearly there.”

They finally stopped on a concrete road at the village entrance, and got out to walk. The village was tiny, with scattered, squat red-brick houses. The air was heavy with silence, and the surroundings looked bleak and run-down.

Nathalie couldn’t help but wonder how Cameron, once such a bright star, could end up here. Even if he had hit rock bottom, his talents alone should’ve landed him a decent job.

Almos walked up to a small row house and knocked. “Is Mr. Dawson in?”

Nathalie held her breath, eyes glued to the weathered red door.

A moment later, a voice, a bit raspy and aged, called from inside, “Coming.”
