Astrid’s POV

The room was thick with an awkward silence as everyone processed the unexpected revelation.

Whispers of disbelief rippled through the assembly, eyes darting between Alpha Theron, Drystan, and me. The tension was palpable, a mix of surprise and concern hanging heavily in the air.

I could feel the intensity of Drytsan’s scrutiny, his disbelief almost tangible. Before the ceremony, he already made his feelings clear to me.

He is not comfortable about me going back to the Silvermoon Pack and being anywhere near my ex-husband and his new wife, whom he had replaced me with.

Drystan knows more than anyone how much I had suffered because of them, and yet I’ll be sent back there again with the task of helping them.

I knew Drystan wouldn’t like this, I should have talked to him about this beforehand, but cowardice got the best of me.

Drystan is worried about my safety and well-being. Yet I remained focused on the task at hand, not letting his reaction sway my resolve.

Around us, the other leaders exchanged uneasy glances, their expressions reflecting with concern. They all knew the history. Although I’d be there to help, it still doesn’t sit right with them — that the ex-wife would live in the same room as her ex-husband and her ex-husband’s new wife.

I couldn’t help but steal a glance at Killian and Giselle as I wondered their reaction.

Killian’s face was set in disbelief, his brow furrowed, probably processing and contemplating the implications of my presence in their Pack.

Giselle, beside him, wore an expression of shock mixed with concern, her protective instincts flaring.

It’s clear that they are both worrying about the complexities of this arrangement.

Suddenly, Asha spoke up, her voice cutting through the tension in the room. “Father, why did you choose Astrid for this role instead of Andros? This should be his job. He’s trained for this, and he has the experience to lead the warriors.”

Her question hung in the air as she felt that her father’s decisions were unfair. In the past, Alpha Theron always chose Andros to handle all difficult and important tasks. She was surprised that the task was given to me this time.

I could already tell what she was thinking yet again. She thinks that I’m stealing everything from her and her brother, just like what she always says.

“Asha, your brother is already in charge of a lot of tasks,” Alpha Theron replied, his tone calm yet firm. “That’s why I chose to let Astrid handle this. She can focus solely on the Silvermoon Pack without the additional burden that Andros already carries.”
