Liesel silently put her glass down and turned to look at Jacob.
Today, he was wearing a midnight blue suit with a luxury watch worth millions. His platinum tie clip was in the shape of an iris. As one looked upward, they would be drawn to his strikingly handsome face.
Midnight blue was his favorite color.
Liesel glanced down at her red gown as she couldn't help but smile.
From afar, many might see their red-blue combination and assume they were a couple. What a shame they were already divorced.
After the divorce, Liesel's flourishing beauty was something Jacob had never seen before. It was as if she had transformed into a completely different person now.
His eyes slightly darkened. As she raised her head at that moment, her composed gaze met his arrogant one. A hint of incomprehensible allure in her gaze seemed to tease him.
Though it wasn't her intention, Liesel's misleading gaze would always contradict how she felt.
Standing tall on the wide balcony, Jacob's dominant presence seemed to burn the air around him. Beside him stood her delicate figure with a breathtaking beauty.
The event hosted by Alden University tonight attracted numerous insiders in their field. They couldn't help but gaze at the two of them. Even the students found themselves drawn to their stunning appearances and strong aura.
"Mr. Ford, can we head somewhere else?" Liesel's eyes glinted with playful mockery. "All eyes are on us because of your arrival, and it's bothering me."
Before Jacob came, a few people were looking at her, but with less intense gazes. Perhaps it was seeing him that diverted their intentions.
While tapping on her glass with her slender fingers, Liesel said, "When you attended some event at Ophelia's faculty last year, Mr. Ford, some young lady ran up to you for your contact information. I wonder if you gave it to her."
She paused and recalled, "I believe she was a finance major."
During her three years of marriage to Jacob, it wasn't rare for her to be silently threatened. Even though they didn't know she was his wife, just being his secretary was enough for them to do so.
Some even met up with her and offered her a large sum of money to help them pursue Jacob.
Although it was absurdly ridiculous, Liesel found it to be understandable. After all, he was worthy enough to justify such behavior.
He lowered his gaze as his dark eyes landed on her face. He placed his glass on a nearby table. "What are you trying to say? Do you want me to leave? Or are you hoping for a show—some student pursuing a finance mogul?"
Frowning, he reminded her, "Don't forget who you are right now."
Liesel met his gaze in silence before tilting her head with a calm smile.
Jacob's eyes flickered in confusion. He asked, "What is it?"
He lifted his glass and took a swig of alcohol. The stinging burn slid down his throat and into his chest as tension arose within him.
If one told him that a starless night evoked a unique emptiness, he would dismiss it as boring. If one described the fleeting grace of wilting petals as serendipity, he would just call it a dead flower.
It was no different for Liesel. No matter how much she expressed her sincere love for Jacob through her silent actions, he was completely unmoved by it.
He even thought that it was a waste of time. Perhaps he had become so used to it that he took everything for granted.
Letting out a small chuckle, Liesel let go of her lingering thoughts. "I guess that's just how men and women differ."
Rather than dwelling on it, she would rather dismiss this matter with the fact that women tend to be more emotional than men.
This was what set Jacob apart from Elijah. Elijah would take her to watch the sunrise, enjoy fireworks, and many other places to experience nature. For Jacob, he would only call such things meaningless.
After staring at her for a long while, he finally spoke. "I don't think you'd enjoy those sentimental and pretentious pieces of literature."
Liesel froze for a moment before her lips curled into a faint, self-deprecating smile. "Maybe you're right."
What else could she say? She already knew he was devoid of empathy. Why should she waste her breath? She would only cause more trouble for herself.
While leaning against the railing, she propped her chin on her hand as her clear eyes fixated on Jacob in silence.
