"Jacob, you've gone too far," Denzel couldn't help but comment.

"It's understandable if you can't accompany Liesel to honor Ms. Mallone because of work commitments, but you shouldn't have gone to Jeffrey's birthday party today. You're like stabbing her in the heart."

Denzel's tone carried a distinct chill.

Jacob's eyes darkened, and Alex sighed from the side. "If I were Liesel, I'd hate you for this. Jeffrey cheated on Ms. Mallone during their marriage and ended up having Natalie.

"We don't even know if Ms. Mallone was driven to her death on Jeffrey's birthday. And here you are, not only divorcing Liesel for this illegitimate daughter but also going to Jeffrey's birthday party on the anniversary of Ms. Mallone's death."

Alex shook his head, exasperated.

He thought about reaching out to Liesel, but he worried he might only hurt her further, so he held back his frustration.

Jacob remained silent. His expression was grim as he downed glass after glass of alcohol.

Denzel sensed the tension. Despite knowing Jacob had done wrong, they were still close friends who grew up together. He asked, "What really happened?"

Jacob's throat felt constricted as he finally spoke. "I didn't realize today was Ms. Mallone's death anniversary."

Denzel felt something was off. Just as he opened his mouth to respond, Jacob continued, "I forced her to attend Jeffrey's party and made her see Natalie wear the dress her mom made. Natalie even ruined it."

Denzel was so stunned that he couldn't say a word, while Alex scoffed out of anger.

"Good grief, Jacob Ford. You're really cruel. To please your current fling, you forced your ex-wife to attend her scumbag father's birthday party on her mother's death anniversary? Are you out of your mind, or am I?

"Even if you don't like Liesel, you shouldn't degrade her like this. She was your wife for three years. What has she done to deserve this?"

Alex, a mutual friend of Jacob and Liesel, was nearly speechless with frustration.

"What should we do now?" Denzel asked. "Take Jake back to his apartment? If we take him to Ford Manor, Mr. Ford Senior will have a fit."
