"Are you not coming back with Lili for dinner tonight? It's odd. Lili would usually be heading back on this day. Did you snatch her away?" Vincent asked.

Alex felt a wave of panic wash over him.

Liesel wasn't avoiding Ford Manor because of Jacob. It was clear she didn't want to return because they were divorced.

Jacob, with his bleary eyes, took a while to respond. "She left."

"Left? What do you mean, Lili left? Where did she go?" Vincent fired off three questions in quick succession.

Alex broke out in a cold sweat as he hurriedly grabbed the phone from Jacob's hand.

He forced an awkward laugh and said, "Jake and Liesel had a fight. He couldn't swallow his pride to apologize, so he came to my place to drink. Liesel just left for some fresh air. It's nothing serious, Mr. Ford Senior. They'll be back to normal by tomorrow."

Vincent frowned. "I knew you were the one who took him drinking."

For heaven's sake! When did he ever take Jacob drinking? Jacob was here drowning his sorrows because he messed up!

Alex felt wronged but couldn't explain. He just had to accept the accusation. "Don't worry, Mr. Ford Senior. Jake will head back to his place once he sobers up. It's really no big deal."

"What do you mean it's no big deal? Today is Lili's mom's death anniversary! That idiot didn't even remember that! And I have to remind him! How can Lili not be upset?" Vincent genuinely felt sorry for Liesel.

"This won't do. I'm going over there right now." Vincent was decisive and always acted swiftly.

As soon as he said that, Alex felt his scalp tingle with dread at the thought of Vincent showing up at Blues Bar.

"Mr. Ford Senior, I just remembered! Lili is just around our area! I'll have her come pick Jake up shortly! Don't worry!"

Liesel flatly refused. "If it's to pick up Jacob, I decline. We're divorced. I have no ties to him anymore. You might as well contact Natalie. I think Jacob would prefer his new love to pick him up."

With that, she was about to hang up the call.

Alex hurried to intervene. "Wait! Mr. Ford Senior just called! He said Jake upset you and wanted to come pick you guys up. I'm worried that drunk Jake might let the truth slip to him."

Alex tentatively added, "Liesel, putting everything aside, Mr. Ford Senior has always treated you well. Even if it's not for Jake, could you at least come pick him up for Mr. Ford Senior's sake?"

Liesel tightened her grip on her phone. A bittersweet smile graced her lips as she asked Alex, "We're already divorced. Am I supposed to be tied to him for life because of Grandpa?"

It sounded like a question directed to herself as well.
