As the secretaries were gossiping, they fell silent upon seeing Elijah. They quickly greeted him. "Mr. Hardin."

Elijah smiled. "Is Mr. Ford in his office?"

The lead secretary replied, "Yes, he is. Do you need to speak with him?"

Elijah smiled again. As he pushed open the office door, he immediately spotted Jacob sitting at his desk while rubbing his temples.

Upon hearing the door open, Jacob looked up briefly. His gaze swept over Elijah before returning to his paperwork.

His dismissive glance only widened the smile on Elijah's lips. "Mr. Ford, I've heard you're quite skilled. Care for a spar?"

Jacob set down the file he was holding. His dark eyes glinted with a cold light.

Elijah was quite interesting. Even before Jacob could reach out to him, Elijah came knocking first. Of course, Jacob wasn't going to turn him away.

Elijah entered unscathed but left with some bruising around his eyes and mouth.

Yet he didn't seem to mind. Before he left, he flashed Jacob a grin that was almost infuriating.

Jacob could guess that Elijah came to him for Liesel's sake.

As Liesel's suitor, Elijah naturally wanted to put on a display before Jacob.

Although Elijah didn't gain much ground, he didn't feel like he was the loser. It was as if simply getting a rise out of Jacob was a victory in itself.

He didn't brag about it to Liesel. Instead, he sauntered away with his sunglasses on.

Once Elijah left, Jacob checked his phone and noticed several missed calls.

All were from Natalie.

Frowning, he dialed her number, and she picked up almost immediately.

Drew's tone remained calm. "A sick leave is still a leave, and she only has minor injuries. There's no need to make a big deal out of it and waste your time."

Jacob scrutinized him deeply.

Drew continued, "When Ms. Liesel was sick, you said not to waste your time if it wasn't a big deal."

Jacob's gaze wavered. He recalled how Liesel had once been hospitalized with a high fever two years ago just because she had to attend a meeting. It almost developed into pneumonia.

Yet she continued to drink with foreign partners, ultimately securing the contract but collapsing afterward.

Jacob said nothing more and drove toward Cloudspire Hospital.

Meanwhile, Natalie lay pitifully on the hospital bed. Her injuries weren't really severe. She just had a broken bone in her hand.

The gash on her forehead was sizable but stitched up well. The effects of the anesthetic hadn't worn off yet, so she hadn't fully grasped the extent of her pain.

Denzel had only stopped by after hearing that an employee from Ford Corporation had been hospitalized here.
