"Both of us want to start fresh, so there's really no need for the dress." Liesel declined with a smile.

Of course, it wasn't just a dress.

Ever since Natalie had ruined the dress Heather made, Liesel had developed a strong aversion to such gifts.

She had vowed not to accept anything from Jacob again. She believed that if they were to sever ties, it had to be done completely.

Drew let out a sigh. He was clearly taken aback by how things had turned out. "I thought you and boss would last."

He had even picked out baby names and gifts for the couple. Who would have thought that they would end up divorced in just three years?

"I'll pass your message along to him."

After a pause, he offered some earnest advice. "I know you're upset with him after yesterday, but… I really hope you can take a serious look at your relationship."

"I'm really serious." Liesel stood up to pour him a cup of coffee.

Having worked together for three years, they had become close friends, and Liesel didn't intend to hide her thoughts from him.

"I understand what you mean," Liesel said. "You want me to recognize Jacob's status and position in the industry so that I don't end up crossing him in any way."

Smiling, she continued, "First of all, Jacob won't retaliate over something so trivial. I'm sure of that. Secondly, since we're already divorced, our ties are severed.

"Accepting gifts would just make it seem like I still have ulterior motives. Besides, I could buy these things myself. I don't need Jacob's charity."

Drew realized further persuasion was futile. Liesel had clearly made up her mind.

"As long as you don't regret your choices in the future."

He recalled that two years ago, when Liesel was flipping through a jewelry magazine, she had commented on how stunning these red diamonds were.

When he learned they would be available at auction, Jacob made it a point to attend in person to acquire them.

He hoped Liesel would accept this gift as a way to make amends for his actions.

But as these incidents piled up, the sincerity behind the gift had faded significantly.

At the Scott residence, Sky was cheerfully discussing with Zack the high prices that Xavier's grades could fetch.

Zack listened, taken aback. "Are you sure that'll actually work?"
