Liesel remained silent. Since Natalie was ignored completely, she started to feel awkward.
Drew couldn't help but chuckle softly. The sound echoed clearly in the car.
Yet Natalie seemed oblivious to the tension. She insisted on pressing Liesel. "Liesel, why aren't you talking to me?" she asked as if demanding an explanation.
Liesel felt genuinely irritated.
Finally, unable to tolerate it any longer, she turned to Jacob with a sneer and said, "If you can't keep your girlfriend in check, don't blame me for saying harsh things."
Then, her gaze landed on Natalie, and a wave of derision flowed from her lips.
"Natalie, I hope you always remember that I'm the daughter of Jeffrey Sharp and Heather Mallone. You're just a product of Jeffrey's affair with another woman. Even though we share the same father, your very existence is a wound to my mom and me.
"If you were a decent person, you'd have a sense of shame and keep your distance from me instead of buzzing around like a pesky fly.
"You always say that I'm your sister. But I want you to understand that someone of your standing doesn't deserve to be my sister, and I will never acknowledge you."
As her words fell, Natalie's face turned pale. A hint of grievance flickered in her eyes.
"Who are you trying to look pitiful for?" Liesel mocked. "If you can buzz around like a fly, how can you get hurt by just a few words? You're overdoing the act."
With that, Liesel finally glanced at Jacob. As if remembering something, she said, "My apologies, I forgot you had an audience in the car who enjoys watching you perform your little dramas."
Her sarcasm was painfully evident.
The look of grievance on Natalie's face became increasingly evident. Meanwhile, Jacob watched the scene with an indifferent expression. He seemed unwilling to get involved.
He merely frowned before diverting his gaze and saying softly, "I'll have Drew take you back to the hospital. Stay there and don't wander around."
Actually, he wanted to add that she shouldn't speak carelessly either.
But given how Liesel had already provoked Natalie, he refrained from saying anything more.
Upon hearing his command, Drew tightened his grip on the steering wheel. But in the end, he didn't object. He came out of the driver's seat to push Natalie's wheelchair into the hospital.
Natalie looked up at Jacob with red-rimmed eyes. "Jake, don't forget to come see me. I'll miss you."
She was truly full of schemes and always thinking about how to entice Jacob.
Drew clicked his tongue silently and quickly pushed the wheelchair away, eager to avoid adding more tension for Liesel.
