Chapter 98 novel Regretful Tears Won't Bring Her Back

Jacob watched Liesel hurry away, and his gaze darkened.

Once she was gone, Vincent immediately set down his utensils. His voice was laced with clear disapproval.

"Lili doesn't like eggplant. Didn't you know that?"

This was news to Jacob. He had only learned this right at that moment.

"Lili knows everything you like. Look at how she serves you food and peels shrimp for you. Everything she puts on your plate is something you enjoy. She even dipped the peeled shrimp in your favorite sauce.

"But you? You only served her that one dish, and it happened to be the eggplant she can't stand. Lili has always hated braised eggplant."

This was completely unexpected for Jacob.

His gaze flickered. After a moment, he stood up. His expression was decidedly grim.

When he returned to the room, he found Liesel in the midst of retching.

He sat silently on the couch. The moment she emerged from the bathroom, he noticed her pale complexion and red eyes.

She was clearly feeling sick.

Jacob's gaze wavered again. "Why did you force yourself to eat something you dislike?" His voice carried a hint of coldness.

"Liesel, I never pressured you into anything. Why do you feel the need to torture yourself?" He couldn't understand her reasoning.

Liesel leaned against the wall while looking at him. The gauze on her palm was damp, and blood began to seep from the wound again.

She had removed her glasses to wash her face earlier, so the gash on her forehead was revealed.

As Jacob raised his eyes, he immediately noticed the visible injury.

Even with such a gentle touch, Liesel let out faint gasps. Her body trembled as she felt the sharp sting of pain.

Jacob softened his movements further. "Liesel, I don't want you to force yourself to do anything."

Looking at Liesel, he continued, "If you don't like it, don't eat it. Even if Grandpa does get angry, that's something I should deal with. It was my mistake. You shouldn't be the one to bear the consequences."

He understood clearly that this was all his fault.

After three years of marriage, he still didn't know what colors she liked or what dishes she preferred. He even made such a basic error at the dinner table. It was truly ridiculous.

He slowed his speech so she could clearly hear what he was saying.

"I wasn't forcing myself." Liesel looked at him and explained, "I just don't want Grandpa to figure out the truth from little things like this."
