Chapter 20
As the Bentley sped along the streets, Andy found his gaze drifting towards Cherise, who seemed lost in thought as she watched the world pass by.
It had been a long fifteen years since they’d last seen each other and he was struck by how different she was from what he’d expected.
Instead of the small–town plainness he’d expected, Cherise exuded an elegance that outshined even Betrico’s most sophisticated women. Her attire was impeccable, and she resided in the luxurious Glenshire Gardens, a far cry from anything modest
Intrigued. Andy asked, “Cherise, how’s life in Betrico treating you I would have gladly picked you up. How did you end up in Glenshire Gardens?”
With a faint smile, Cherise answered, “I’m coping. A friend had picked me up and taken care of my housing.”
Her evasive response only deepened Andy’s curiosity, but sensing her disinterest in conversation, he didn’t press further. The remainder of the trip passed in a peaceful silence.
At the Leach manor, a flurry of anticipation filled the air. Everyone, excluding those living in the main house, was eagerly waiting for Cherise’s return after more than ten years away.
Oliver sat in his wheelchair, his legs thin from disuse, his hair now laced with gray, belying his advanced age. He clutched a faded photo of a young Cherise, his eyes brimming with regret and sorrow.
A servant’s voice interrupted the silence, “Mr. Chivers, their car has arrived”
Oliver’s excitement was palpable as he instructed, “Quickly, wheel me to the front yard.”
Lionel, the butler, swiftly wheeled Oliver to the front yard.
Evelyn, Andy’s mother, along with Oliver’s third son Sean–who leaned on a cane–his wife Heather, and their son Yves, all hurried out upon hearing the news.
“Mom, is it that beautiful cousin from Yasvissa?” Yves asked, brimming with excitement.
Heather smiled and confirmed, “Yes, it’s her.” Ever since Yves came back from Yasvissa, he’d been full of stories about Cherise, calling her a fairy
Heather was relieved that the Leach family branches had their own space; it kept Shirley and Mandy from catching wind of things and making a fuss.
As the Bentley rolled in, the group assembled in the front yard of the Leach manor. Andy was the first out, rushing to open Cherise’s door and shielding her as she emerged.
Cherise thanked Andy with a gentle smile and stepped out, capturing everyone’s attention
The servants were whispering in shock, “We had Ms. Cherise Leach down as some small–town nobody, stuck in that backwater place for ages. But she’s drop–dead gorgeous, more so than Ms. Shirley Leach, and her dress is super stylish”
Tears filled Oliver’s eyes as he gazed at Cherise. She approached and slightly squatted beside him, saying, “Grandpa, I’m
home.
Oliver’s voice was thick with entotion as he held Cherise’s hand ughtly, his face etched with regret and remorse. “My dear, your return is a blessing.”
The moment touched everyone there, bringing tears to their eyes
