Mandy quickly diffused the tension. “Cherise, your dad has your best interests at heart. Just relax and enjoy the perks of being part of this family, and listen to his guidance.” 

As Mandy spoke, Jacob’s anger subsided, grateful for her tactful handling of the situation. 

Evelyn, not to be outdone, stood up, her voice resohate. “Shouldn’t we consider what Cherise actually wants! She’s still adjusting–making decisions for her isn’t right. We want our children to be happy, don’t we?” 

Sean agreed with Evelyn. Jacob, let Cherise decide her own future.” 

Chense felt a surge of gratitude for their support and consideration. 

Mandy stepped in, backing Jacob up “He’s just trying to do what’s best for Cherise. She had a rough time out there. Now, he’s trying to give her a good life. That’s what matters.”“ 

Jacobs, thankful for Mandy’s support, gave her a quick, appreciative squeeze.

Cherise moved from behind Andy’s protection, rising slowly. With a slight smirk, her eyes now icy, she seemed to radiate a chilling presence as she locked gazes with Jacob. 

Feeling the ice in Cherise’s eyes, Jacob stood taller, recalling his role as the Leach family head. 

Cherise let out a derisive snort. “Father? You’re nothing like a father to me. This place isn’t home now. It stopped being home when Mom was gone and you brought Mandy in. And don’t you dare talk about my grandmother. Her words chilled the 

room. 

Facing Oliver, she said, “Grandpa, I’ll visit you another time.” Then, she walked to the door, not looking back, with Andy following close behind. 

Jacob felt completely humiliated and yelled after Cherise, “If you leave now, don’t count on my help again. You ungrateful girl 

Mandy, pretending to comfort Jacobs, whispered, “Dear, don’t take it to heart, while a secret grin flickered across her face when others weren’t watching. 

Shirley put on a worried face, but inwardly, she was delighted. 

Oliver, seated at the head of the table, let out a heavy sigh. “A tough break, indeed.” The weight of the moment appeared to add a few years to his face. 

The family dispersed to their rooms, a mix of relief and concern lingering from the day’s turmoil.
