Marie Frederick, a cheerful woman in her fifties with a plump figure, was all smiles as she spotted Morris and Cherise entering her restaurant,

Her hands clapped in excitement as she took in Cherise. “And is this stunning young lady your partner? I swear, I’ve never seen such a beauty. You two are quite the pair.” 

Cherise, not used to such compliments, blushed a sweet shade of pink, her cool demeanor momentarily replaced by a charming shyness.. 

Morris, with a gesture, made the introductions. “Marie, meet Cherise.” 

“Glad to meet you, Marie, Cherise greeted, her voice polite but warm. 

“You, too, Cherise, Marie responded, her tone full of affection 

Morris, breaking from his usual stoic self, gave Cherise a gentle, playful smile. “Marie, she’s not my partner yet,” he explained. 

Marie let out a knowing chuckle. “Not yet, huh? I’ve been there, she said, linking her arm with Cherise’s. “You know, I’ve seen Morris grow from a little tyke, and you’re the first girl he’s ever brought around.” 

Cherise, feeling the genuine warmth from Marie, didn’t hesitate to link arms back, a sign of her acceptance and comfort. 

Marie’s excitement was clear as she led Cherise and Morris to the cozy dining area. “Great spot and special beef stew for both. Make yourselves comfortable,” she said, her voice as warm as the meal she was serving 

Marie smiled and went to the kitchen, letting Cherise and Morris soak in the room’s warm ambiance and the tangy peppermint aroma. 

The space’s old–fashioned appeal was enhanced by wooden windows and a stool with a vase of booming flowers. A round wooden table in the middle provided a welcoming place for a pleasant meal 

Morris pulled out a chair for Cherise, who smiled and thanked him as she sat down. 

“I’ve known Marie since my mom was with us. She started this place after my mom’s passing. Marie’s always on the go, but she means well,” Morris shared, eager for Cherise to understand and appreciate Marie’s lively character. 

Cherise’s eyes sparkled as she replied, “I can see that She’s lovely and I really like her.” She was touched by Morris’s openness about his history. 

Marie’s return was signaled by a knock, and she entered with a steaming plate of beef stew that promised comfort and 

fulfillment. 

Cherise’s face lit up with joy as the dish was placed before them and Morris’s warm smile showed his appreciation for Cherise’s reaction. 

The stew was a visual delight, with chunks of tender potato and carrots nestled among the succulent beef. The aroma was rich and inviting making Cherise’s mouth water as she anticipated the flavors of the hearty dish. 

Marie placed the stew on the table, mentioned a brief errand, and left quietly. 

Noticing Cherise’s excitement, Morris casually scooped up a forkful of beef and vegetables for her. “Feel free to dig in,” he said, his tone relaxed. “Enjoy the flavors.”
