Just as Cherise finished speaking. Hank let out a sigh of relief, a Clara slowly opened her eyes. 

With her frail, thin fingers, Clara weakly tugged on Cherise’s picky. “Ms. Leach, did I faint again as soon as you arrived? Hank, am I getting worse? I even saw my parents from my dream coming to take me home.” 

Clara’s voice was weak, and her face looked pale. 

Cherise pursed her lips, reaching out to gently hold Clara’s delicate hand. “Clara, would you like to be able to eat lollipops and cake, like the other kids?” 

Though Clara didn’t have much strength, she nodded and met Cherise’s gaze. 

Clara’s eyes were clear and pure, filled with innocent longing as she spoke. “I do. I really do.” 

That simple sentence hit Cherise right in the heart. 

She smiled. “Alright, Clara, you need to listen to the doctors and me. We’ll fight this illness together. It might take time, but once you’re feeling better, I’ll buy you some delicious cake and sweets, okay?” 

Clara nodded again. She had heard Hank and Maeve talk about how capable Cherise was. She smiled faintly, a sweet little dimple appearing on her cheek. 

At Betrico Hospital’s Specialized Pediatric Ward, only Cherise, Maeve, and Hank had accompanied Clara. 

The others, including Hugh, stayed at the orphanage to look after the remaining four kids. 

At the door to the ward, the dean Edmund stood in front of Cherise, holding a test report. “Clara’s numbers are not looking good. I hate to say it, but her parents, who abandoned her right after she was born, are really inhumane. 

“They must have known about her condition from the start and chose to abandon her.

“For now, you can keep her here. Please monitor her numbers closely, and if anything changes, give me a call.” 

Edmund nodded. “Don’t worry. I’ll keep an eye on her.” 

When Cherise finished her conversation with Edmund, Hank and Maeve had just come out of the room. 

“She’s too weak. After the injection, she fell asleep again,” Hank said as soon as he saw Cherise.

Hank shook his head. “I know a little about medicine. I’ll stay, so I can keep an eye on things. Ms. Leach, go ahead and go 

home. 

“It’s late, and your family might be worried. Plus, once you rest, you’ll come up with a good plan to help Clara, right?” 

Cherise glanced at the time. “Alright, I’ll head back now. Give me one day to handle Clara’s situation.” 

She nodded to both of them and turned to leave. 

Maeve, confused, asked Hank, “Hank, what did Ms. Leach mean? I don’t quite understand.” 

Hank smiled faintly, looking at Cherise’s receding figure. “Clara should soon be able to live like a normal child, without the constant burden of type 1 diabetes.” 

Maeve’s eyes lit up, and she slapped her thigh. “Right! How could I forget that Ms. Leach is a renowned professor in the Traditional Medicine Department at Betrico University? Clara will be saved now. This is fantastic…”
