The CEO’s private elevator doors slid open, and Dora stepped out, with her assistant Jason Muller following close behind 

The young receptionist, catching sight of Dora, smirked at Cherise, thinking to herself, Ms. Xenakis is also a woman, and she must hate gold–digging social climbers like you. You’re doomed. She put on a sycophantic grin, ready to greet Dora 

But Dora bypassed her, making a beeline for Cherise instead “Cherise, why didn’t you give me a call or just come on up Her voice was warm, like they were old friends. 

The receptionist’s mind raced, and her face drained of color as she overheard this. 

Cherise shot her a glance, a smirk playing on her lips. “This lady here said I didn’t have an appointment and tried to stop me, claiming I was here to land a rich guy.” 

“What?” Dora’s anger flared as she turned to the young receptionist, the weight of her authority palpable after years in the G suite. “Who do you think you are, passing judgment on her? You’re fired. I don’t want you darkening GlobalVision Group’s door again 

The young receptionist’s legs buckled, and she collapsed onto the floor. 

Dora told her assistant, Jason, “Sort this out. Then she and Cherise headed upstairs. 

As she passed. Cherise advised Jason, “Tell HR to be more selective in the future when hiring 

Jason, who had seen Cherise with Dora privately and knew the score, nodded respectfully and said, “Yes, understood.” 

Once Cherise and Dora were out of sight, the young receptionist, realizing how Jason, the CEO’s assistant, had treated Cherise with such deference, was petrified. 

She crawled to Jason’s side, pleading, “Jason, please don’t make me leave. I need this job. I was blind. I was wrong. I won’t do it again.” 

Stone–faced and standing tall, Jason said, “Ms. Leach is someone even Ms. Xenakis wouldn’t dream of offending, and she cares a lot about her. You, a mere receptionist, dared to speak ill of her. It’s too late. Security, escort her out!” 

And with that, the farce came to an end. The remaining receptionists breathed a sigh of relief, grateful they hadn’t acted out and resolved to learn from this. 

They were also curious about Cherise’s identity, wondering what made her so commanding in the eyes of Dora and Jason. 

Cherise and Dora rode the elevator to the 36th floor of the Global Vision Group building, where two young female assistants greeted them as the doors opened.. 

“Get us two coffees. One with lots of milk and sugar, Dora instructed before leading Cherise into the CEO’s office. 

“You got it,” Vivian Hinton, one of the assistants, responded 

The other, slightly plump assistant, Laura Poole, had been staring at Cherise since the elevator opened. 

Vivian, noticing Laura’s daze, called out to her. “Laura, what’s with you?” 

Laura let out a son sigh. “We’re both women, but she’s stunning, and I… I feel like I was just sent by heaven to fill the ranks. Don’t stop ΠΗ 

I’m canceling that steak meal I ordered” 

Vivian nodded in agreement. “She’s breathtaking. I’m a woman, and even I’m smitten. Come on. Let’s get the coffee ready. We’re running out of time.”

“Oh, right, Laura said, mapping back to reality. 

Inside the CEO’s office, Laura brought in the two coffees, ser then down, and quietly exited. 

Cherise stood in front of the floor–to–ceiling window, with her arms crossed, gazing out at the bustling GlobalVision Group industrial park. 

Dora looked at Cherise’s elegant back and asked, “So, have you ever thought about coming back to manage the business you built?”
