On the small island in the heart of the lake owned by Carson, Cherise, and Carson sat facing each other.

“Your wedding with Morris is just a few days away. Take this. Consider it part of your dowry from me,” Carson said with a smile, pushing a medium–sized wooden box toward Cherise.

Cherise glanced at the wooden box and smiled, “Didn’t you alreally give me something back in Larkston? Why another gift?”

Carson chuckled, “What I gave you back in Larkston was just something valuable–too common. This is different. It’s not about the price but my blessing for you.”

“It may not be worth much in the eyes of others, but I believe it’s the perfect dowry for you. Open it and take a look,” he said.

Hearing this, Cherise felt a tinge of anticipation. She lifted the lid, only to find a single sheet of paper inside. She frowned in confusion and asked, “What is this?”

She picked up the paper and unfolded it.

As soon as she read it, her eyes widened in shock. “This is the property deed for this island? Cherise–my name is on it? You’re transferring the ownership of this island to me? No, I can accept this. This island belongs to you.”

Carson waved his hand. “At my age, what do I need it for?”

Cherise continued, “Even if you don’t need it, Eugene is still here. Why give it to me?”

Carson laughed, “A girl is more precious than a boy. Besides, Eugene has his responsibilities back at the TenderHeart Clinic in Larkston. The entire TenderHeart business is waiting for him to take over.”

“Listen to me. I give you this island for a reason. Your grandfather has passed, and You aren’t close to the Leach family. I’ve thought about it. When a woman gets married, she should have a grand send–off from her family’s home,” he said.

“I may not have many attachments left in this world, but I want this island to be your home, a place that shows the world you have a strong family behind you,” he added.

“In this world, where every man for himself, having support is crucial. I want you to marry from here and I want everyone to know that your family gave you an island as the dowry. Cherise, be a good girl and accept it,” Carson said.

Hearing his words, Cherise felt that her teachers welled up her eyes. She hadn’t expected Carson to think so far ahead for her.

Carson and Cherise exchanged a glance over their coffee. After taking a sip, Carson said leisurely, “The same person?”

Eugene nodded. “Yep, it’s him. This is his tenth time asking for a meeting.”

Carson hummed thoughtfully, “Let him come up, but alone. It was bound to happen sooner or later.”

Eugene replied, “Got it.” Then, he turned to head toward the dock.

Cherise watched Eugene’s back and, thinking about Carson’s expression, asked, “Carson, who is it?”
