Chapter 61 

Calm and composed, Phoebe sipped her coffee. Then, picking up on Melissa’s discomfort, she said, “Cherise, you’re twenty- six this year, aren’t you?” 

Melissa aflirmed with a nod. “Yeah, two years younger than Morris, she replied to the point. 

Right after, Phoebe, with a serious expression, advised, “Your parents should be scouting out a good match for you.” 

“We don’t rush into marriage in our business, and as everyone knows, I’m interested in Morris. My parents actually want me to ask for your blessing first,” Melissa said, her cheeks flushing as he lowered her head. 

Phoebe sighed and said, “You know, Morris has always been one to make his own decisions, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. I’d hate for him to resent me.” 

“But in our circles, there’s no such thing as marriage freedom. Its all about what the parents say and the matchmakers‘ words. Besides, Morris respects you. Can’t you have a say?” Melissa said, a soft laugh escaping her lips. 

Phoebe set down her coffee cup, a faint smile playing on her lips “We’re in the 21st century. The old ways should be left behind. I’m open–minded about it; aren’t you young ones supposed to be even more so?” 

Before Melissa could respond, Phoebe yawned. ‘Oh dear, I’m getting old and feeling tired. I’m going to take a nap. Enya. when Ms. Chambers leaves, make sure she takes her gifts with her!” Phoebe said, stifling another yawn 

Seeing this, Melissa didn’t dare to push it further, but she clenched her hands tightly, feeling a strange discomfort. It was clear to her that Phoebe was giving her the brush–off. 

After Phoebe retired to her room, Enya had the supplements Melissa brought returned to her car, untouched. 

Melissa politely bid Enya farewell, and once inside her car, she sped off from the Chivers residence. 

As soon as she left the Chivers residence, Melissa drove straight to the Horipines River bridge at the foot of Azure Peak, slammed on the brakes, and turned off the engine. Then her previously warm demeanor changed drastically. 

Melissa got out of the car, stood on the Horipines River bridge, and looked at the turbulent river below, her face showing 

anger. 

In the next moment, she took out the bags of supplements from her trunk, walked to the edge of the bridge, and threw them all into the river. 

As the rapid current gradually swallowed the red gift boxes, Melissa’s expression gradually improved. 

“In the whole of Betrico, the only one who can match Morris is me, the young lady of the Chambers family!” Melissa vowed. 

She added, “As for Phoebe, you’re just a clinging old woman. Today’s visit was entirely out of respect for your grandson Without Morris, you’re nothing. Once you’re gone, I’ll be the closest woman to Morris.” 

After saying this, a smile slowly formed on her lips. Melissa put on her sunglasses, got in her car, started the engine, and drove away. 

On the other side, Enya entered Phoebe’s room to see her taking the pills given by Cherise. 

Phoebe took a sip of water, swallowed, and then asked, “Has she left?” 

Enya nodded and said, “Yes, she just left. Her expression was fine, still gentle as ever.” 

Phoebe said, “She’s been in the entertainment industry for so long; managing her expression is a piece of cake for her. No idea what she’s really thinking, though. She must be furious with me.”
