Anderson was shrewd. If Mayra got him upset, she might not even have the chance to call for help.

She softened her tone and apologized obediently. “I’m sorry, Andy. I know I was wrong. It’s my fault. I won’t do it next time. It’s true that I went to Gordon first and pestered him to tutor me.”

In front of Anderson, changing the situation was simple for her. “I- I want to go home…” She lowered her head and spoke carefully.

His expression softened a bit. “I’ve been waiting for you for so long. But you didn’t return until late and were even out with an outsider. I did this for your good. Come here. Eat with me.”

“Andy, it’s very late now—”

“So you can stay late with Gordon but not with me?” Anderson sounded jealous. She forgot it was because that was how he was. He had too much control over everything.

He placed one hand in his pocket, returned to the dining table, and sat down. Soon, a waiter came with new dishes.

But this time, it wasn’t the unpalatable steak. It was Mayra’s favorite food. The waiter pushed out a new castle-shaped cake and slowly approached them.

Anderson served her a bowl of soup. “Why are you in a daze? Eat first to fill your stomach. You have plenty of time to eat cake.”

Mayra sat across the long table, but he said, “Sit next to me. How can I pick food for you like this?”
