Chapter 61

Emily was at Paramount Hall.

The weather was pleasant, and she sat on a stool in the yard. She stared at the phone that was placed on the folding table. When she saw the incoming call, she hung up at once without even thinking.

Emily, turned back to look surreptitiously at the person bustling around in the kitchen. She gritted her teeth and grabbed his phone to look at it while Gordon was occupied. She caught a glimpse of Gordon’s wallpaper and saw that it was Mayra!

She did not have time to be shocked, so she deleted the call records at once….

Then, she put the phone back guiltily and stood up. “Gordon, you don’t have to go to so much trouble. I can eat anything for lunch. I’ll help you start a fire!”

“You don’t need to. You should go out!” Gordon said.

Emily put her hands behind her back and leaned forward. “We’re from the same school, so we’re pretty much classmates. Besides, I’m practically your neighbor. My parents are on a business trip, which is why I’m eating over here. I’ll feel guilty if I don’t do anything. Why don’t I help you wash the vegetables?”

“Whatever pleases you,” Gordon said.

Mayra sent a message: “Gordon, if I don’t have anywhere to go, will you take me in?”

Gordon had sharp ears, and he heard the sound of his phone vibrating. He put down the firewood that he was holding. His hands were stained black with ash, and as he got up, wood fragments fell all around him.

He had just stood up when Emily suddenly blocked the doorway. “Where are you going? Aren’t you going to start the fire? Are you going to get firewood? I’ll get it for you.”
