On the way back, Gordon saw that Mayra would frown whenever the car started and stopped. She really was feeling sick, so he reached out and pulled

her close.

His family owned an apothecary, and he dabbled in medicine. He massaged an acupoint on Mayra’s hand. “Do you feel better?”

The driver said, “Hold on a while longer, young lady. We’re almost there.”

Mayra endured the cramps in her stomach and nodded.

Five minutes later, Gordon paid the cab driver and left with his arm around Mayra, who had a stomach ache. They walked into Paramount Hall. “Just endure it for a while longer.”

They walked into the backyard, and Emily saw them. “Gor-” The words died on her lips when she saw who he was supporting inside.

Emily’s eyes widened at once, filled with shock. She felt an intense jealousy burning inside her, and she stamped her foot in anger when she saw the two of them go into the bedroom.

Gordon took Mayra’s shoes off and put her in bed.

Then, he took her pulse and deduced that she was weak and suffering from gastrointestinal problems. “Didn’t you eat anything this morning?

“Wait for me.” Gordon ran to the kitchen and took a clean cup. He washed it several times before making some honey water for her.

Emily said, “Was that Mayra, Gordon? What happened to her? Lunch is ready. Shall I bring it to her later?”

Gordon didn’t even look at her. He said, “You can eat it yourself. Don’t mind us.” He had distanced them from her with just one sentence. He was clearly excluding her.

Gordon picked up a spoon and walked inside. He fed Mayra the honey water. Your blood sugar is low. Drink this to fill your stomach up. Later, I’ll make you whatever you want to eat.”
