As Anderson walked down the quiet corridor of the Barlow mansion, he passed by a room and heard some noise from inside. He instinctively pushed the door open and entered.

Seeing the person inside, he frowned. “What are you doing?”

The maid inside jumped in surprise. “Mr. Anderson, I’m just tidying up Ms. Sadler’s bedding. I wasn’t sure when she’d be back, so I figured I’d put the bedding away to keep it from getting dusty. I’ll lay it out when she returns.”

Anderson slowly lowered his hand from the door and then silently left the room.

The summer nights were brief. At 4:00 am, the sky was already faintly lit with dawn, and the temperature was cool.

Suddenly, a deafening knock woke Mayra up.

“I’m back. Open the damn door! Can you hear me? Open the damn door! Don’t just keep quiet. I know you’re in there.”

The voice sounded like that of someone who was drunk. Mayra had

encountered many of these types of people before.

The local ruffians around the neighborhood knew that this tenant was a reckless fighter, so they wouldn’t dare cause trouble.

Unable to wear slippers, Mayra could only walk barefoot. She cautiously grabbed the wooden stick placed by the bedside. Since she didn’t dare turn on the lights, she tiptoed to the door in the darkness with the stick raised.

She couldn’t afford to let her guard down. After all, the old door could easily be opened with a strong enough force.

If he dared to come in, Mayra would defend herself.

“Shut up! People are sleeping!”

After a burst of angry shouts, the person knocking on the door outside finally quieted down.

There weren’t any major issues with the testing for now, so he submitted the application form.
